Are you a driven graduate with a passion for structural engineering and building design? AECOM invites you to apply for the role of Graduate Engineer – Structures within our esteemed Building Engineering design team. This opportunity is part of our exclusive 2024 Graduate Program, where you will collaborate with experienced Senior Engineers on diverse and impactful building projects.

Role Overview

As a Graduate Engineer – Structures at AECOM, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of a wide range of building projects. From world-class sporting venues to commercial properties, healthcare facilities, higher education campuses, research facilities, and hospitality venues, you will contribute to shaping the future of the built environment.

Your Development Journey

Throughout the graduate program, you will gain confidence in designing using various structural materials and for different building types. You will also develop an understanding of commercial arrangements, contract types, and procurement methods that influence our work. As you progress, you will assume greater autonomy and responsibility in your designs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited University.

  • Candidates must be recent graduates, having graduated within the last 24 months or no later than September 2024, to be eligible for AECOM's Graduate Program.

  • Successful applicants must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.3 or 2:1 (or equivalent) and above.

  • If you hold a Master’s Degree, it should have started within 12 months of completing your Bachelor’s Degree to ensure continuous education and meet program requirements.

  • Candidates with more than 1 year of postgraduate work experience are not eligible for the program and are encouraged to apply for our professional-level roles instead.

  • Mandatory undergraduate coursework in at least two of the following subjects:

Structural Dynamics

Dynamic problems in civil engineering; single-degree-of-freedom system; free and forced vibrations; transient phenomena and Duhamel's integral; distributed mass system; seismic response of structures; multi-storey buildings; random vibration and wind-induced response of structures.

Structural Steel Design II

Design of fully and partially composite beams. Beam-Columns design including local buckling, strength and stability interaction equations, biaxial bending, and bending and tension members. Plate girders design including ultimate shear strength, tension-field action, design of bearing and intermediate stiffeners, local buckling considerations, and flexural resistance. Second-order analysis techniques.

Reinforced Concrete Design II

Behaviour and design of reinforced concrete members, subjected to biaxial bending, torsion, lateral loads and two-way action. Two-way slab systems. Strip method, direct design approach, and equivalent frame analysis of two-way slabs. Yield line theory of slabs. Inelastic response of reinforced concrete structures and moment redistribution. Earthquake-resistant design.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in structural design analysis software based on Finite Element Method (FEM).

  • Solid understanding and experience with BIM tools.

  • Advantageous skills in Dynamo or Rhino Grasshopper, and scripting languages like Python or VB.

  • Strong command of any structural design analysis software package FEM based.
