Summary This position is located in the Industrial Production Facility (IPF) under the Naval Engineering Department (NED) at U.S. Coast Guard Base Alameda, Alameda, CA. Responsibilities The NED ensures that assigned cutters and boats meet their operational requirements by providing quality maintenance, repair and logistics support for naval engineering systems. The incumbent is responsible for a full range of clerical and administrative support to the IPF which consists of 30 members, both civilian and military. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Processing timecards for assigned employees. Creating SF-52’s, requests for Personnel Action, or other personnel actions. Devising and implementing an automated correspondence status and tracking system. Assisting in the planning, review, and reporting of data/statistical results of a program or project studies. Receiving, reviewing, analyzing, incoming correspondence. Receiving and processing documents and reports in accordance with established procedures. Preparing requisitions for supplies and equipment and requests for service. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this position. This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. This includes Time-In-Grade requirements for current status employees applying through merit promotion procedures. Status applicants applying for a promotion must have 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade. Qualifications At the GS-07 level: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level (in the Federal service). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include receiving, logging in and reviewing all incoming correspondence; monitoring and maintaining a calendar, coordinating meetings, and travel; maintaining electronic records; establishing and maintaining office files; preparing correspondence on non-technical administrative matters; and preparing time and attendance records. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Receipt of the bonus will require a 12-month service agreement.
