Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Shore Infrastructure Logistics Center (SILC), Base Alameda, Facilities Engineering Department (FED), Alameda, CA. Responsibilities This position serves as an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic at Coast Guard Base Alameda, CA. Responsible for maintenance, repair, modification, overhaul, and installation of a variety of air conditioning, industrial and domestic refrigeration, heating equipment, hot water and steam boilers of various sizes and types. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Installing, operating, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and making both minor and major repairs to a variety of air conditioning, heating, steam generation and refrigeration systems and equipment. Maintaining and repairing compressors, evaporating and condensing units, heat exchangers, valves, piping, pneumatic control devices, pumps, steam boilers, heat exchangers, refrigeration appliances, refrigerators, water fountains, and refrigeration units. Maintaining an adequate stockpile of parts and consumables used in the operation and maintenance. Working with and imparting knowledge to Engineers of the Watch and junior personnel who may be less skilled or experienced in the above tasks and who may need to learn to complete these tasks themselves. Providing department leadership with status updates, troubleshooting results, and recommendations regarding operation and maintenance of the systems listed above. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship is required. The position requires a valid state driver's license. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service. May be subject to recall to make emergency repairs. Must be universal certified by an EPA certification program. Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position. This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI). Must have received HVAC certification from accredited trade school or prog.
