Description

The Assistant Director of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for maintaining a caseload providing behavioral health services in both the residential and day program settings, as well as direct supervision of Behavioral Intervention Specialist clinicians. The position requires that the individual be able to function as a member of the treatment team as well as fulfill the role of a lead clinician in matters pertaining to behavioral health of those individuals on their assigned caseload.

The essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a caseload of high behavioral health needs programs in the agency

  • Complete the necessary behavior support plans/medical monitoring plans per the OPWDD regulations

  • Provide ongoing staff training in the area of behavioral health and client specific challenges

  • Provide consultation and collaboration with staff to deliver purposeful, consistent approach for agency wide trainings pertinent to clinical topics when working with the ID/DD population.

  • Support the clinical team and interdisciplinary team in navigating sensitive or crises situations

  • Managing a caseload of clients for individual therapy sessions to address clinical and psychosocial needs in addition to conducting assessments and evaluations

  • Provide group therapy sessions to address clinical and psychosocial needs (e.g. sexuality and relationships, DBT, conflict resolution)

  • Serve on agency oversight committees

  • Attend team meetings with rotation to present topics

  • Maintain and develop professional relationships with graduate level colleges/universities for intern supervision

  • Supervising clinicians under the direction and collaboration of the director including documentation review, oversight on restrictive support plans, and maintaining supervision meetings

This position reports directly to the Director of Behavioral Health Services.

Requirements

  • Must currently hold a NYS license in Clinical Social Work (LCSW), LMHC, or LMSW.

  • Must have 1-2 years supervisory experience and 1-2 years experience with the I/DD population

This position requires a strong background multiple clinical interventions and theoretical foundations including but not limited to:

Applied Behavior Analysis, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Approaches and Dialectical Behavior Therapy and the development of person centered treatment plans written from a trauma informed perspective.

The position also calls for strong knowledge base in the area of psychiatric issues in the ID/DD population including pharmacotherapy and differential diagnosis as well as consideration for continuity of care and connection with treatment teams.
