Position Overview:

The Clinical Supervisor of Education (“Supervisor”) is responsible for the development and delivery of social work services in the R&E May School Day Treatment Program and supervises the social workers within the school. The Supervisor manages the development and implementation of assessment and treatment planning for each child and family served by the Day Treatment Programs, under the leadership and supervision of the Associate Executive Director, Clinical Services.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that social work services are provided according to the regulations of the NYS Education Department, the NYS Office of Mental Health, and according to the policies and philosophy of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Provides clinical and administrative oversight for the R&E May School’s Day Treatment Program Social Work staff through individual/group supervisions and employee evaluations.

  • Assists in the recruitment of social work staff for the department.

  • Participates in Day Treatment intakes and collaborates with the Intake Coordinator to schedule timely admissions for students entering the Day Treatment Program.

  • Ensures that assigned social work staff complete and document psycho-social assessments, and treatment plans developed by treatment teams at Treatment Planning Meetings, at initial (30 Day), quarterly, and other as needed intervals, for the children and families in the Day Treatment Department, according to the requirements of regulatory bodies and the policies and philosophy of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Ensures quality and compliance of progress notes, periodic assessments, treatment plans, AWARDS and IEP Direct data entry, and other paperwork required of staff as directed by agency policy and regulatory bodies.

  • Actively supports the goals of the agency and Day Treatment programs in preventing discipline problems and in teaching social skills.

  • Provides timely review and response for all incident reports involving social work staff, according to required agency and regulatory protocols/procedures.

  • Ensures that required Post Crisis Response steps are conducted for youth, parents, and staff following critical incidents that involve social work staff.

  • Participates in monthly Quality Assurance and Critical Incident Review meetings for Continuous Quality Improvement.

  • Participates as an active member of program, department, and agency committees.

  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services.

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work required; NYS LCSW licensure required

  • Experience in residential and/or special education setting, with supervisory and/ or program management experience preferred

  • Local travel to other agency site locations is occasionally required for this position; therefore, a clean and valid New York State Driver’s License – be actively licensed for at least one (1) year is required, and reliable transportation is essential

  • Proficiency in various computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Business Workspace Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Meet, Sheets, etc.); and secure Internet practices

  • Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting, is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability and willingness to maintain up to date information regarding standards and mandates set by St. Catherine’s Center for Children, the New York State Education Department, the New York State Office of Mental Health, the New York State Office of Child and Family Services, and other regulatory bodies.

  • Ability to objectively review critical incidents, support staff following incidents, and identify areas for improvement.

  • Must be able to perform well under crisis conditions, with the capacity to carry out Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies.

  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and meet the criteria outlined in the Revised Policy for Agency Drivers.

  • Self-motivated and engaged, with a strong attention to detail; Excellent writing aptitude.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal); outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to build strong working relationships with other agency staff and other regulatory bodies.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment.

  • Must have patience, flexibility and adaptability; be capable of exhibiting empathy for those in crisis.

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people, including those who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and functional levels.

  • Ability to organize and effectively manage, in a timely fashion, the varied tasks of the position.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and service providers or professionals.

  • The capacity to maintain a helping role and to intervene appropriately to assist in meeting service goals, while setting appropriate limits.

  • Ability to exercise ethical, independent judgment and discretion.

  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.

  • This position will have access to highly sensitive records, and access to client Protected Health Information (PHI), in order to carry out the required duties and responsibilities. This may include Treatment Plans, Intake and Assessment information, Psychological and Psychiatric reports. The individual in this role will comprehend and actively institute safeguards to protect client and family confidentiality in all aspects of residential work. Therefore, the ability to meet all HIPAA requirements and maintain strict client confidentiality is essential.
