ATI is seeking to hire a Melt Process Development Engineer to join the Process & Product Development team at our manufacturing facility in Albany, Oregon. This is a day shift position with somewhat flexible working hours. The Process & Product Development team works collaboratively to design and improve the manufacturing of challenging materials. P&PD Engineers lead problem solving and continuous improvement efforts with a variety of metal melting and forming processes towards improvement of quality, cycle time, yield and/or cost, and provide technical support to internal and external customers. Our efforts solve hard problems in medical, energy, aerospace, and defense markets with refractory metal alloys and material systems of Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, V and Ni.

The Melt Engineer will support Process & Product Development with technical expertise in key products, continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment, and occasional research in pursuit of transformational change. To become successful and impactful, you will learn ATI’s people, systems and procedures and identify and implement improvement opportunities which support our business goals and strategic objectives. Attention to detail, good time management, and strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills are included in the skillset of a successful Engineer.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a BS in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering or a related field

  • At least 2 years of experience with processing-microstructure-properties relationships and a strong interest in fundamental materials processing

Preferences, Skills and Abilities:

  • Candidate must be curious, creative and innovative, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and opportunity-rich shop floor environment

  • Experience with one or more reactive metal melting technologies is highly preferred: plasma hearth, vacuum arc, electron beam, laser, induction, and/or gas atomization

  • Ability to obtain a DoE security clearance is preferred
