St. Luke's University Health Network Maintenance Technician in Allentown, Pennsylvania

The Maintenance Technician inspects, tests, maintains, installs, repairs, and modifies systems, equipment and structure within network properties. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Inspects, tests, maintains, installs, repairs, and modifies systems, equipment and structure within network properties. If additional craftsmen are required, the mechanic monitors, and coordinates the work to completion.

Performs preventive maintenance as assigned on systems, equipment, and structure within network facilities. Works with the supervisor in establishing new preventive maintenance routines and modifying ones in that zone.

Communicates and works directly with supervisory and management personnel, nurses, patients and other staff on a daily basis to ensure that optimum patient care and business environment is provided. Maintains good public relations by responding professionally to their needs and keeping staff informed regarding the status of requested work.

Performs work in accordance with local, state, and national code compliance in his/her zone and reports violations directly to the supervisory and management personnel in Engineering. Uses hand, power, and technical related tools and test equipment.

Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. Accurately documents task completion utilizing computerized maintenance management system.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires standing for up to eight (8) hours per day and walking for up to four (4) hours per day, sitting for extended periods of up to two hours, lifting loads of up to 60 lbs., pushing loads of up to 300 lbs., bending, crouching, reaching, twisting, climbing (stairs and ladder), and manual dexterity to make equipment repairs. Seeing as it relates to normal vision, and hearing as it relates to normal hearing.

POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS:

Cuts or punctures and confinement to small spaces. Risk minimized by user’s awareness of MSDS. Individual shall follow all safety rules pertaining to working with electricity and moving equipment.

Employees who work in patient care areas where they may have potential exposure to patients with suspected or proven tuberculosis (TB) must have the ability to wear a particulate respirator and be fit-tested in compliance with the current recommendations from the CDC (enforced by OSHA) or must provide physician documentation as to the inability to wear a particulate respirator.

SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE:

Masks, Gloves, Clothing, Goggles, Eye Shields, Face Shields, Hardhats,

Ear Plugs, etc.

MOST COMPLEX DUTY IS:

The inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of systems, equipment and structure within the hospital. Communication with nursing staff, patients, and supervisory and management staff.

SUPERVISION (RECEIVED AND/OR GIVEN):

Receives work without direct supervision. Must possess the ability to make decisions and proceed on his/her own initiative in compliance with policies, practices, and procedures prescribed by management.

COMMUNICATIONS:

Must possess good communication skills in both listening and interpreting verbal and written instructions as well as conveying necessary information to appropriate individuals and departments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess the ability to contribute, standardize and implement those ideas or efforts

that will have a positive effect on the Department and/or Hospital.

Must have and maintain valid PA or NJ Driver’s License accepted by the Network insurance carrier and a good driving record.

Must obey and adhere to all motor vehicle regulations and laws while operating hospital vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS

(Minimum)

EDUCATION:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate (G.E.D.)

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years’ experience in one or more trades found in the Engineering Department preferred. Technical school certification may be substituted for up to 18 months experience.

They include electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry or electronics.

Valid state issued motor vehicle license.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Normally Day Shift. Required to fill-in and/or have short notice regarding changes in

schedule to accommodate staff absence due to vacation, sickness, etc.
