Summary

Under the supervision of the building administrator, the Student Behavior & Attendance Lead’s primary role is to support the social, emotional, and academic progress of students. The SBAL supports the teaching staff by supporting proactive classroom management strategies, identifying students with attendance issues or disciplinary issues, and addresses those issues by partnering with teachers, students, and parents to create a positive outcome. The SBAL works to ensure student safety by proactively addressing student concerns, modeling restorative practices, and resolving conflicts. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment and use of emotional objectivity.Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Builds and maintains positive and effective relations with students, parents and staff.

  • Fosters an environment where students and staff and faculty work cooperatively together.

  • Confers with students, parents and staff to discuss attendance, social, emotional, behavior, and academics needs.

  • Leads the restoration process and implementation of restorative practices within the school community.

  • Assists the principal in upholding, developing and maintaining the student’s handbooks.

  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.

  • Participates in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others.

  • Supports in some supervision of extracurricular activities as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education, social work or related field

  • Experience with restorative practices preferred

  • Experience working with students and families preferred

  • Mandatory Reporter training—within one month of starting.

  • CPI training - within one month of starting

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • Effective interactions with students, teachers/staff, and parents in a culturally responsive manner

  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal problem-solving and de-escalation techniques, including maintaining emotional objectivity pre, during and post-intervention

  • Strong oral and written communication with a preference for experience using educational software including Infinite Campus and Google Docs

  • Evidence of the ability to keep and maintain accurate records

  • Initiative to address concerns and the ability to work without close supervision.

  • Demonstrates integrity and maintains confidentiality.

  • Sound judgment and interpersonal problem-solving ability.

  • High degree of approachability and accessibility.

  • Evidence of successful previous experience with secondary students.

  • Ability to create a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for all students, families, and staff.

  • Consistent and punctual work attendance.
