Ophthalmology Tech/Technologist ID 2024-22232 Category Specialty Technicians - Ophthalmology Technician Facility DOD / MTF - Alaska - Elmendorf Air Force Base Job Description Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a Potential opportunity for an Opthamology Tech/Technologist - Refractive Surgery Program Manager to support 673rd Medical Group @ Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK. Job Requirements: * Degree/Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent. * Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: The Contractor shall possess a current cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitations (CPR) card. * Experience: The Contractor shall possess 5 years previous experience working in an Ophthalmology Clinic that performs refractive surgery or Refractive Surgery Clinic performing functions stated and 1 year of experience as a managerial supervisor. * Licensure/Registration: Possess and maintain current certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology or a completed formal ophthalmic training program of the United Stated Armed Forces. * The Contractor shall obtain certification on all refractive surgery laser platforms utilized at the JBER Warfighter eye center within six months of obtaining new equipment, or on current equipment six months from date of hire and remain certified throughout the life of the contract. Core Duties: Not limited to; * Provide a wide variety of duties to assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist as appropriate to the level of certification (i.e., COA, COT, or COMT). * Obtain patient histories, perform prescription verification, and maintain patient records. * Assist in testing patient vision. Test far and near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception. * Examine the eye, using slit lamp, for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers. * Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes. * Measure intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test). * Test field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and chart test results on graph paper. * Measure axial length of eye, using ultrasound equipment. * Instruct patients concerning eye care and contact lens handling. * The Contractor shall provide outpatient ophthalmology services for patients as directed by the * healthcare provider. The Program Manager shall: * Attend the annual Military Refractive Surgery Summit as directed by the work center supervisor. * Manage staff scheduling and recommend scheduling and production changes, track, and schedule staff training and certification. Observe day-to-day clinic operations and the work of the technicians and clerks. Coordinate staffing, leave and duty hours of refractive surgery technicians with the Government Supervisor. * Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the refractive surgery cost center and the annual budget. * Order and maintain ophthalmic medications, supplies and equipment for use by the physician and the clinic. Research, prepare and submit equipment packages for clinic as required. Perform routine checks of medications and sterile instrument packs for expiration dates. * Assist in preparing computer templates and schedules for clinical/surgical procedures. Set up and maintain monthly (recurring) and master schedules through the MHS Genesis computer systems at least 120 days in advance. Prepare monthly clinical reports, records, and data entry with working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Excel and Word.
