Job Summary :

A n exciting opportunity exists at Raytheon for a Materials & Process Development Engineer to join our materials development team working on diamond and III-nitride based devices within the Advanced Microelectronics Solutions (AMS) Department. This role requires a broad understanding of materials fabrication, CVD diamond growth, materials characterization, and deposition systems.

As a member of the AMS Department, the individual in this role will serve as a materials development engineer to lead and execute programs to fabricate new materials and test their properties. The individual will also serve as a process development engineer assisting in foundry sustainment activities, providing equipment support, and supporting the development of new wafer fabrication processes and device capabilities. The chosen candidate is expected to be an innovative and creative thinker capable of probing issues and reaching solutions both independently and in a team environment. A significant portion of the role involves developing proof of concept demonstrations of novel semiconductor materials and processes to create new technology discriminators in a III-V semiconductor wafer foundry. Presence on the foundry floor is essential for improving various processes, quick resolution of technical issues, and executing on continuous improvement activities. The role requires a large degree of multitasking with attention to detail while managing priorities depending on the nature of the problems and the commitments to customers or program leads.

This role will be 100% on-sit e and based in Andover, MA.

Responsibilities to Anticipate :

  • Development / optimization of CVD diamond reactors and growth processes.

  • Supporting the foundry’s III-V process development efforts through wafer movement, equipment sustainment, and process improvement activities.

  • Exploration of novel material structures for next generation devices and pursuit of contract R&D opportunities.

  • Coordinating in-house material R&D activities, presenting to internal and external customers, and assisting with program capture activities.

  • Expected to work well in small, cross-functional teams, assist in pursuing contract R&D, and assist in transitioning processes into production.

  • May manage small projects or processes within area of responsibility.

  • Work autonomously with limited oversight.

  • Communicates with parties within and outside of own department. May have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g. customers and suppliers).

    Basic Qualifications :

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years’ of prior work experience OR an Advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ of prior work experience. A PhD can account for 5 years of experience as required for this position.

  • Experience in materials / epitaxial growth.

  • Experience in maintaining and utilizing CVD diamond growth equipment.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience troubleshooting a diverse set of fabrication equipment in addition to establishing qualification and preventative maintenance procedures.

  • Ability to clearly and succinctly document and present process development status in a team meeting.

  • Experience in statistical process control and lean manufacturing methods (e.g., Six Sigma).

  • Communication skills with the ability to communicate ideas effectively.

  • Experience with semiconductor processing, device physics, and data analysis.

  • Ability to work with large datasets.

  • Experience in a data analysis software packages (e.g. MATLAB, Python, SQL, JMP).

  • Ability to lead and coordinate technical projects with diverse and cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with characterizing, understanding, and improving semiconductor device performance and reliability.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
