Summary

Plan, organize, supervise and manage the clerical responsibilities of the Nursing Clerical Service department. Plan, develop and implement departmental operational policies, procedures, systems and methods. Responsible for all clerical human resource management (hiring, appointment changes, performance coaching, employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc.) of a large clerical staff. Approve changes in staffing, scheduling to ensure Unit coverage. Monitor and control budget expenditures, review accounts and recommend budget changes or cost control measures. Weekly approval of payroll.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experienced required.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills including proven capability to supervise a large number of employees and build a cohesive work team.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse group of people in a diplomatic and effective manner.

  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service.

  • A successfully candidate will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Ability to work under pressure, set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Works independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Creative and proactive. Willingness to seek out and meet with nursing management on clerical procedures, policies, employee performance.

  • Previous work experience in a 24/7 day a week setting.

  • Previous experience creating and maintaining employee schedules.

  • Inpatient hospital experience desired.

  • Two to three years experience with OneStaff, MiChart, Microsoft Windows and Excel desired.

  • Reasonable knowledge of University and Michigan Medicine policies and procedures.

Work Schedule

This is a evening position. Must be flexible with shift times. Rotating weekend/holiday work required.

Background Screening
