Summary

The School of Social Work Information Technology team is looking for a Media Consultant to support the instructional technology and audio/visual needs of the faculty, students, and staff of the School of Social Work. Areas of support include classrooms, event spaces, and other computing environments within the School of Social Work building. As a part of our team, you will provide friendly customer service and technical assistance to support our diverse community of faculty, staff, and students. Based on experience, this role may be underfilled at the Audio-Visual Technician level.

Responsibilities*

Technical Assistance - 30%

Provide technical support for School of Social Work instructional and audio-visual equipment including computers, projectors, sound amplification, and cameras. Assist faculty, staff, and students in using audio/visual and computer technology in classrooms and event spaces. Schedule and provide setup assistance and support for video conferencing, special event recordings, equipment loans. Support the training and mentoring of our student support staff.

Classroom Technology Support - 25%

Assist with regular daily inventory checks and maintenance of classrooms and event spaces. Arrange repairs and replacement of defective equipment. Create documentation and provide training on the use of available classroom technologies. Work with SSW IT on classroom technology lifecycle management. Provide support for e-learning systems including Canvas while redirecting or collaborating with other additional support when needed.

Video and Audio Production - 25%

Provide general videography services using video equipment and web-based lecture capture tools. Perform video editing to create professional quality content. Help set up podcasting equipment and provide training on audio editing and captioning.

Special Projects - 10%

Based on experience, provide support for special projects and other technology needs. These may include creating custom A/V solutions, assisting with piloting new technologies, updating web pages, or creation of interactive learning content and/or instructional videos.

Learning and Growth - 10%

Foster new skills and stay current on modern instructional technologies.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree, relevant associates degree, or comparable professional experience.

  • A positive attitude and friendly customer service focus with a desire to help our diverse community with prompt support.

  • Familiarity with Windows and Mac computing platforms.

  • 1+ years of experience providing live event support, using video and audio equipment such as cameras, audio recorders, tripods, and microphones.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written to convey technical concepts to non-technical people .

  • Regularly move and transport objects such as projectors, screens, monitors, equipment carts, AV racks and podiums weighing up to 50 lbs.

Desired Qualifications*

  • General knowledge of Canvas or similar learning management systems.

  • 1+ years of experience using the following tools (or equivalent): Zoom, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Camtasia, Kaltura, Garage Band.

  • Experience with the setup and support of live streaming events (primarily via YouTube).

  • Familiarity with the University of Michigan IT environment.

  • Familiarity with ADA requirements regarding digitally accessible documents and multimedia.

This position may be underfilled at the lower classification (Audio-Visual Technician) depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Additional Information

This position reports to the Instructional Technology Manager for the School of Social Work. The typical work schedule for this position is 7:30am-4:30pm Tuesday-Saturday but may have occasional deviations for special events. The primary work location is on campus in Ann Arbor at the School of Social Work Building with some limited flexibility for remote work hours. The position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay if required.
