Job Summary

The Briarwood Medical Group Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) is a Patient Centered Medical Home in the Division of General Medicine, which provides team-based primary care to adult patients. The primary mission of the ACU is to provide timely, high-quality, evidence-based, empathetic care to a population of diverse patients while also upholding the academic mission of Michigan Medicine through the education of medical students and residents. We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Patient Services Intermediate / Patient Account Rep/Referral Coordinator to join our team. Responsibilities*

Advanced MiChart responsibilities:

  • Manage complex billing and referral work queues

  • MiChart Reporting functions; ability to run MiChart reports and analyze as needed

  • Oversee assigned MiChart In-Basket

  • Maintain responsibility for MiChart grids

  • Template editor, including provider template submission & changes

  • Maintain up to date and detailed scheduling requirements for provider templates

  • High-functioning scheduler

Provide complex clerical support services:

  • Process Provider time off requests

  • Obtaining and tracking pre-appointment records; including but not limited to lab and diagnostic results, appointment clearances, progress notes, etc.

  • Prior authorizations for testing (Genetic and Molecular), medications and DME

  • Manage clinical databases, if applicable

  • Responding to concerns, questions, and complaints from patients

General Duties/Office Support

  • Maintain supplies in department

  • Prepare and distribute patient education materials and other general office functions i.e. Fax server monitoring, copy and image documents etc.

  • Other general office functions

  • Serve as a mentor for Patient Services Assistants and Associates

  • Assist in onboarding new team members, providing resources to facilitate the learning of position.

  • Manage, coordinate, and maintain external relationship with Outreach clinics (non-um clinics), if applicable

  • Participate in team/clinical meetings

  • Cross coverage for PS Assistants and Associates

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 3-4 years of experience

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

  • Prior experience performing complex scheduling

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting

  • Communicates effectively

  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary clinical setting.

  • Demonstrated excellent attendance

  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Outlook

  • Expected to be proficient in identifying problems, seeking and implementing solutions

Desired Qualifications*

  • Solid understanding of computers, email, and Microsoft Office applications

  • Prior Cadence and MiChart/Epic experience

  • Previous experience in an ambulatory care clinical setting

  • Experience working within a large, complex healthcare setting

  • Knowledge of university policies & procedures

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge of insurance carrier requirements

Background Screening
