Nursing Supervisor (Health Care)

Full time, 1st Shift (7-3p), Monday – Friday, Weekends as scheduled

Salary Range: $43-$51.49/hr (Based on years of experience)

    Essential Functions:

  • Ensures that federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to nursing service and employee relations are followed.

  • Makes rounds to assess and evaluate patient needs, quality of patient care, staff ability to handle clinical situations, and provides direction as needed.

  • Serves as a consultant, advisor, and resource person for nursing staff on assigned shift.

  • Functions as the contact and problem-solving person for residents, physicians, families, and visitors as indicated.

  • Interprets and implements Presbyterian Homes and The Moorings nursing policies and procedures.

  • Assists with staffing schedule for assigned shift and handles staffing emergencies for the following shift.

  • Assigns nursing personnel and makes adjustments in assignments based on the acuity of patients and capabilities of staff.

  • Enters pertinent resident information, including admission, discharges, falls, and skin issues. and condition changes, on the 24-hour report.

  • Documents pertinent information on the 24-hour report concerning staffing issues

  • Assists in orienting and evaluating new nursing personnel.

  • Assists with performance evaluations of staff assigned to shift.

  • Counsels staff as needed and recommends disciplinary action to Director of Nursing or initiates disciplinary action personally when the situation warrants.

  • Participates as a member of the nursing leadership group in identifying and solving problems and implementing department objectives.

  • Participates as assigned to a QAPI project.

  • Ongoing completion of projects assigned by DON.

  • Communicates as needed with Director of Nursing and other nursing management personnel to ensure 24 hour continuity of care.

  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Nursing in identifying and fulfilling educational needs of staff of assigned shift.

  • Evaluates accidents/injuries/emergencies for any resident of the campus, staff member or visitor during the assigned shift and provides appropriate follow-up as indicated.

  • Responsible to learn and use standard functions within software and know basic operation of computer to enhance efficiency in resident/patient service, assessment and/or clinical documentation.

  • Responsible for using computers and software as required by work environment in order to enhance communications, performance and knowledge.

  • Completes all assigned computer education modules in a timely fashion.

  • Assumes responsibility for own professional development .

  • Aware of Presbyterian Homes Corporate Compliance policies, including those having to do with confidentiality and security of information, and concern for the well-being of residents and patients. Demonstrates behaviors and completes work in a manner consistent with these policies.

    Education:

  • Graduation from an approved registered professional nursing program. BSN or equivalent preferred.

    Qualifications:

  • Active, current Illinois license to practice professional nursing. Current CPR certification. Three years experience as a staff nurse in the acute setting with adult patients or long-term care experience. Supervisory experience preferred.

    Working Conditions:

  • Regular bending, walking, lifting or moving patients and/or equipment weighing over 50 lbs. Use of good body mechanics.
