Amazon has created some of the most game changing technologies in the world and Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Key job responsibilities

As a Sr. Technical Program Manager (TPM), you will be a key member of the Ground Systems development team responsible for ground station site engineering for the Kuiper Ground Gateway Terminal (GGT) sites .

In this role you will:

• Coordinate with internal teams and suppliers for design engineering and build-out of ground gateway sites

• Own organization and processes to track program/project deliverables

• Creates workarounds and solutions to remove roadblocks

• Review comprehensive design packages for antenna field, site civil and overall infrastructure layouts for compliance with specifications

• Review contractor site documentation including vendor submittals and test reports for contract compliance

• Identify and communicate issues, risks and dependencies to the internal engineering team.

• Influences backlog prioritizing and manage escalations

• Write status reports for project health and updates

• Maintain record of as-built infrastructure drawings

• Support site build-outs and maintain management of change documentation

• Verify as-built technical compliance and support acceptance testing

• Travel to construction sites, as required

A day in the life

In the role of a TPM, you will conduct weekly meetings with engineering consultants and construction vendors. You will provide technical oversight in the development and review of civil and antenna field drawing sets, review analyses, and oversee infrastructure acceptance testing at the completion of site upgrades. You will also work with and be a part of an experienced cross-disciplinary team responsible for the deployment of a global network of ground gateway stations that support the Kuiper LEO satellite constellation. You may also spend the day inspecting the as-built at any one of our global gateway sites.

About the team

The Ground Systems team is responsible for the architecture, design, build, and installation of Kuiper’s Ground and TT&C Gateways. Our Ground Gateways enable high data rate, low latency communications between Kuiper Points of Presence and our Low Earth Orbit Satellite constellation. TT&C Gateways support satellite Launch and Early Orbit enabling command and control of the satellites during this critical phase. The team works closely with the Site Acquisition, Construction, Security, Operations, Regulatory, and RF Systems teams to ensure Kuiper provides a seamless customer experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited engineering program with a minimum 10 years of experience

  • 6+ years of project management experience of site infrastructure build-out or equivalent project leadership

  • Experience with site civil scope of work for multi-site construction projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ground Gateway (teleport) or data center design, construction and/or operations experience

  • Strong working knowledge of CAD tools, such as AutoCAD

  • Ability to read, interpret and apply codes and standards to design (OSHA, NEC, IBC or equivalent)

  • Experience dealing with U.S. and international construction standards, regulations, and bylaws

  • Understanding of earthworks, steel, concrete, and masonry construction practices in various climate zones

  • Experience with SmartSheet for project tracking, documentation and managing contractors and vendors

  • Experience with Bluebeam and Bluebeam Studio for collaborative document and plan reviews

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Projects)

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and documentation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver independently with limited guidance

  • Demonstrated sense of ethics and ability to work collaboratively as a member of a highly motivated team who insists on the highest standards and deliver systems which please customers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $119,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
