Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator (Grade Tractor/Gannon Tractor/Skip Loader & Finish Blade)

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our client's team. This position involves operating various types of heavy machinery, including grade tractors, Gannon tractors, skip loaders, and finish blades, to perform tasks such as grading, excavation, backfilling, and earthmoving at residential, commercial, and paving sites. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction, a strong understanding of safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively with a team to meet project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate heavy equipment such as grade tractors, Gannon tractors, skip loaders, and finish blades.

• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, reporting defects or repairs to supervision.

• Achieve acceptable rough and finish grades in various soil conditions.

• Read and understand stake grades and plans.

• Communicate effectively with ground personnel and supervision.

• Ensure safety compliance by adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.

• Prepare construction sites by clearing obstacles, leveling the ground, and setting up necessary equipment.

• Load, transport, and unload materials such as soil, gravel, and debris as required for the project.

• Perform precise grading and excavation tasks to meet project specifications and ensure quality outcomes.

• Identify and resolve issues related to equipment operation and site conditions to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.

• Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and any incidents or issues encountered during operations.

• Work closely with other team members to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient workflow.

• Provide guidance and training to less experienced operators to help them develop their skills and ensure safe practices.

• Follow environmental regulations and guidelines to minimize the impact of construction activities on the surrounding environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3 years of experience in the construction industry operating heavy equipment.

• Experience in earthmoving and heavy construction with knowledge of cut/fill operations from a variety of projects.

• Experience in drainage, landscape grading, and re-establishment with a grade tractor in residential, commercial, and paving environments.

• Ability to understand grading stakes and guidelines on ground or positions equipment.

• Understand controls and functions of the blade.

• Achieve acceptable rough and finish grade in all types of soils and conditions.

• Ability to read and understand stake grades and plans.

• Ability to effectively communicate to ground personnel and supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5 years of experience operating a Finish Blade.

• Experience with Trimble GPS.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

• Knowledge of hazards, safety precautions, and cut/fill operations for a variety of projects.
