The Maine MultiCultural Center (MMCC) is seeking a full-time Volunteer Program Manager. The Volunteer Program Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Housing Program Manager, and Intake Coordinator to recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers. MMCC Volunteers work in teams with immigrant families to determine and prioritize the familys needs and develop a plan of action to help meet those needs.

This is a grant funded position whose continuation beyond the current funding period is dependent upon successful funding renewal.

Duties

  • Work through volunteers to connect immigrants to resources and services that meet their logistical needs and are sensitive to their cultural backgrounds.
    • Recruit and manage volunteers:
      • Recruit volunteers to serve on volunteer support teams and the move-in teams
      • Vet & train volunteers to serve on volunteer support teams
      • Vet volunteers to serve on the move-in teams
      • Assign each support team volunteer to a team and each team to a family/individual within 2 weeks of familys/individuals arrival
      • Create a plan for each family/single individual that MMCC is involved in resettling to guide volunteer activities
      • Monitor implementation of the plan by volunteers & achievement of plan goals by the family
      • Monitor volunteer team activities, and assure that all volunteers are submitting required monthly reports in timely fashion
    • Facilitate the work of volunteer support teams:
      • Maintain at least bi-weekly communication with each team
      • Communicate information and activities of general interest to teams as needed but not less than weekly
    • Track data pertaining to individuals served, services rendered, and volunteer activities, and prepare monthly report to Board of Directors
    • Coordinate activities to engage and welcome international newcomers to the many positive features and opportunities in the Bangor region.
    • Work in coordination with other racial & ethnic groups to promote multicultural events and appreciation for cultural diversity.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Experience in project management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills, including timely submission of project reports
  • Experience working collaboratively with immigrants, and familiarity with the challenges that immigrants face as they resettle in a new community
  • Familiarity with local resources and services from which immigrants might likely benefit
  • Familiarity with and commitment to upholding diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
  • Collaborative work style and proven ability to develop productive partnerships
  • Ability to speak a foreign language a plus
