What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Project Lead Electrical Engineer is generally be responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of small and large electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision and be based in the Beaumont area.

Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Work with lead engineer and 3rd party contractors to design power distribution system, instrumented automation system and industrial networks as well as review detailed engineering documents

  • Generate engineering deliverables include technical specification, maintenance/operation manuals, procedures, drawings (network diagram, loop sheet, panel schematics), prepare document dossier for pre-commissioning activities

  • Support construction work in I&E discipline and support operations by troubleshooting control systems

  • Support PSM standards by participating in PHAs and follow up on MOCs as appropriate

  • Assist project team with setting expectations for preventative maintenance and working with vendors to implement equipment best practices

  • Participate I&E related QA/QC processes of the units (Panels, VFDs, Server Rack, etc)

  • Lead pre-commissioning activities such as electrical loop tests, megger tests, motor rotation check, IO linking, network devices configuration, etc.

  • Participate I&E related commissioning activities, such as control loop tuning, alarm and interlock setup.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires 5+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of Advanced network and computer skills, such as network switch configuration, UNIX/Linux system, windows server system

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, willing to learn about new technologies

  • Previous experience in environments like specialty chemical production, petrochem, oil and gas- PSM plant experience preferred

  • Familiar with I&E systems, PLC’s, P&ID, DCS Systems, 420/120V power distribution and motor controls, LOTO

  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the NEC.

  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.

  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.

  • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.

  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.

  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.

  • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.

  • Ability to determine motor control center loading.

  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.

  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.

  • (Instrumentation) Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.

  • (Instrumentation) Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and actuated valves.

  • (Instrumentation) Familiarity with standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA).

  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations.

  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.

  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.

  • Ability to determine construction material quantities.

  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.

  • Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.

  • Previous work experience in Google Suite.

  • Strong Technical and Analytical abilities.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Good presentation and Virtual team skills
