Job Title: Head of Global Regulatory Affairs – Beauty & Wellbeing (Hair Care)
Location: Port Sunlight Research Lab
The B&W Regulatory Affairs Team partners with marketing, R&D and other functions to enable leading edge science across the whole portfolio and land market beating products and claims. We help to create, grow and protect the business, with our specific domain expertise, can-do mentality and taking end-to-end accountability.
Leads the regulatory strategy, organisation, and guidance for the global Hair Care category’s innovation programme.
Leads the global Hair Care regulatory advocacy agenda, and specific Beauty & Wellbeing topics.
Provides regulatory input to the Category Innovation projects
Delivers strategic regulatory guidance and operational inputs to the BG Design Centres and Science & Technology on global research and innovation projects and emerging technologies
Delivers regulatory strategies and risk assessments for the countries in which the product is to be marketed
Is an expert on regulatory developments worldwide which impact the category’s products, and ensures that these developments are incorporated into the category’s innovation programme
Leads the global Hair care category Regulatory Affairs network which
Monitors regulatory activities in markets as well as challenges in/out
Prepares global regulatory summaries for specific product / technologies areas
Maintains information sharing system to ensure access and alignment on regulatory topics and issues across the category, across Business Groups and in the regulatory affairs capability
Manages Regulatory Affairs for the category by
Being the global regulatory expert in the category claims co-generation process and seek creative solutions
Delivering global regulatory updates on legislation affecting the category, giving training as required
Deliver global co-ordination of the Unilever and B&W position in the face of new or changing regulations in local markets
Providing regulatory input to the management of globally relevant categories issues and opportunities
Anticipating regulatory challenges for the future, which may drive the external influencing agenda for the category
Providing regulatory input in case of mergers and acquisitions
Effective communication of issues management within Category, acts as issue leader in some specific cases, looks to predict new potential issues facing the category
Works with consultants and external regulatory experts related to category innovation projects if required
Manages and/or supports Beauty & Wellbeing Advocacy topics
Monitors the external and internal environment to identify threats/opportunities and communicates with impact to stakeholders
Delivers the aligned BW advocacy plan with assigned key topics
Defends Unilever and B&W position in the face of new regulations or amendment in regulations
Drives for change in regulation or establishing new product regulations to proactively influence to expand the innovation space
RA leader for specific key topics/issues, setting objective, delivery of plans, managing communications cross-functionally, stakeholder management etc
Represent Unilever externally for the specific key topics if required
Develops and maintains excellent interfaces with internal and external relevant partners
Represents RA in other UL functions (SEAC, Comms/External affairs, Legal, Quality etc) on assigned advocacy topic(s)
Has direct contact/represents Unilever in external bodies e.g. Trade Associations, scientific bodies, key opinion formers
ALL ABOUT YOU
- Minimum MS, preferably a PhD in Biological Science, Toxicology, Environmental Science or Chemistry or equivalent
Significant experience of the regulatory requirements that govern the personal care and/or OTC industry, preferably globally, and preferably with experience in the hair care product development area. VMS expertise is a plus.
A proven track record in supporting global product and claims development, in active collaboration with R&D and non-R&D functions and 3rd party consultants/suppliers.
Preferable experience working with external bodies (such as trade associations, Regulatory Authorities, etc) driving a business agenda
Knowledge of Unilever and/or FMCG sector
Great collaborator in international team
Ability to assess and summarize regulatory risks and opportunities and the impact it has on the existing and innovation portfolio. Go beyond reporting and help create internal commitment across the functions and BG to help tackle these by creating the necessary unlocks.
Ability to apply argumentation in order to influence at all levels externally and internally
Pro-active self-direction with a high level of initiative and persistence and a very much hands-on approach to results delivery
Excellent oral and written communication skills, in English
