Google Staff Software Engineer, Networking, Data Transfer Products in Bengaluru, India

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 12 years of experience in software development.

  • 8 years of experience in designing and developing infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.

  • Coding experience in C++, Go, or Java.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience in technical leadership role, helping set technical direction for small number of adjacent engineers.

  • Experience with Cloud WAN, Networking Infrastructure, Software Defined Networking, Security and Network cost optimization, GCP, or other public clouds.

  • Experience in designing and developing large-scale distributed systems, concurrency, multithreading, synchronization.

  • Experience in solving ambiguous technical open ended problems, and ability to learn other programming languages as needed.

  • Knowledge of BGP and its usage in the industry.

  • Ability to transcend organizational boundaries to drive and land projects across multiple teams across the globe, including collaboration and coordination skills across stakeholder groups.

As the Staff Software Engineer on the Data Transfer Products team within the Hybrid connectivity organization, you’re responsible for building/maintaining the cloud fabric that enables routing of traffic egressing the cloud. You will have the opportunity to focus on customers to understand their adoption patterns, produce novel solutions, and launch them. You'll also learn about peering, how traffic is routed inside the cloud, how traffic differentiation is determined for different classes of traffic like standard tier and premium tier, and building/maintaining products that affect the prioritization of traffic across these tiers.

  • Architect and design large-scale, global distributed services in Networking. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide amongst available technologies.

  • Implement distributed, multithreaded, core infrastructure services in C++ and Go. Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).

  • Drive software best practices and architectural patterns on a project-wide level. Simplify and standardize existing solutions.

  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.

  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality. Suggest areas of future work for yourself and the team along with identifying and remediating recurring problems.
