Boehringer Ingelheim Head of Statistical Genomics in Biberach, Germany

About us: Global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences @ Boehringer Ingelheim (gCBDS).

We are part of our Discovery Research area within our Innovation Unit. Through In Silico methods combined with disease biology we want to increase human disease insights. Our ultimate goal is to drive faster and improved decision making in order to identify impactful first-in-class therapies for our patients.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will lead statistical and cellular genetic teams of the Human Genetics (HG) Group. You will contribute to the HG goal of delivering novel therapeutic concepts (NTCs) in disease areas including fibrosis, cardio-renal-metabolic (CRM), cancer immunology and oncology.

  • You will join an interdisciplinary team with expertise in genomics, disease translation, machine learning and animal health. You will focus on building core genomic capabilities that will advance our understanding of human diseases, shed light on the cellular and molecular pathophysiological mechanisms, and deliver insights on translational opportunities.

  • In this leadership role, you'll drive strategies of genomics driven drug discovery, collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Computational Biology, Digital Science, and Data Infrastructure teams. You will pioneer advancements in our technology capability, influencing the efficiency and scalability of discovery solutions.

  • Your role will drive proposing and implementing cutting-edge methods to ensure the team is at the forefront of the latest technology and translational knowledge.

  • You will spearhead external collaborations with CROs and academia; ensure scientific excellence; and accelerate therapeutic translation.

  • You will articulate strategies and findings with clarity to stakeholders and diverse audiences, ensuring comprehension regardless of their technical background.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science or related fields

  • Longstanding industry experience in a disease translation setting in a pharma or biotech environment with several years of line management experience

  • Excellent learning agility demonstrated through past performance in learning new knowledge, adapting to new environments, and bringing-in innovation. Outstanding skills in operating collaborative working models with stakeholders at all levels

  • Proficient in team operation, task prioritization, and a track record of business value delivery within timeframe

  • Deep knowledge of statistical genetics, genomics, and their use cases in disease translation. Proven experience in developing advanced techniques, software development in R/Python

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Capable of communicating research projects and their impact to non-technical audiences and stakeholders in a clear and engaging manner
