Central District Health (https://cdh.idaho.gov/) (CDH) has an opening for a Developmental Specialist to join our dedicated group of public health professionals in our Boise office. The Developmental Specialist is part of a team offering Parents As Teachers (PAT) Home Visiting Services (https://cdh.idaho.gov/hl-pat.php) to pregnant women, infants, and children from birth through age five. This position, with supervision, will provide culturally sensitive interventions with families enrolled in the Parents as Teachers model. The interventions will be provided mainly in the home setting. Interventions and screenings are provided as part of evidence-based curriculums designed for use with this model.

Typical Duties:

  • Home visitation - Provide personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being (including planning, delivering and documenting the visit):

    • Use approved curriculum to share research based information with families;
  • Develop, monitor and review goals with each family;

  • Utilizing the information from assessments, determine needed referrals;

  • Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs;

  • Work with local providers to refer families for appropriate care.

  • Administer and score assessments and screenings of children and families:

    • Screen children using tools such as ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE:2 to determine the children's growth and development level as well as their current social and emotional status;
  • Screen new mothers for signs of depression;

  • Conduct an initial and annual family-centered assessment with assigned families.

  • Document client interactions and compile data for reports:

    • Utilizing standard forms or electronic records, document interactions with families and other services provided;
  • Participate in at least 2 hours of reflective supervision monthly;

  • Participate in at least 2 hours of staff meetings monthly.

  • Direct group education sessions:

    • Provide group socializations with families to increase participant's knowledge of ways to support their child's development (these sessions are monthly and may fall outside of traditional work hours).
  • Assist families with transition to other services such as preschool or kindergarten;

  • Obtain competency-based professional development and renew PAT Model Certification annually;

  • Participate in continuous quality improvement and annual reporting;

  • Work hours may fall outside of typical business hours and may occur on weekends;

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A college degree (bachelor's or master's) in special education, psychology, communication disorders, physical therapy occupational therapy, social work or other closely related curriculum: including specialized training in developmental disabilities or at least one year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.

Experience: selecting, administering, and interpreting test instruments designed to assess developmental disabilities in adults and/or children; making oral presentations.

Some knowledge of training methods.

Desirable qualification:

Valid driver's license.
