The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is currently recruiting for a Legal Assistant (Technical Records Specialist 3). This position will provide primary support for Access to Courts at facilities in the South Boise Complex. The incumbent will facilitate Access to Courts for IDOC inmates; analyze and assess specialized and complex technical records issues; determine relevant components for decision making and problem solving from a variety of sources; review legal documents; provide inmates with IDOC authorized legal resources and Qualified Legal Claims Packets, explain processes associated with filing legal documents in courts; explain processes required by federal and state court rules; provide notary services to inmates; provide documents in response to subpoena requests; maintain required logs and forms; issue decision letters; perform related work and other duties as assigned.
Hiring lists may be created from open competitive, IDOC Department Promotional, or Statewide promotional applicants. The applications may also be used for future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.

Example of Duties
Resolve problems associated with staff assignments
Schedule jobs to be accomplished
Review work to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies
Provide work direction and answer questions requiring subject matter expertise
Track and analyze problems with processes forms, system configurations and develop solutions for management consideration
Review documents to determine appropriate actions, ensure accuracy of computations and compliance with policies and procedures
Research, analyze, and resolve complex problems in processing documents
Correct or reject incomplete or erroneously submitted documents
Contact customers or other involved parties to explain changes, actions, and errors, or resolve problems and gain compliance
Question others to obtain or verify information
Review and analyze legal documents for discrepancies
Compose letters to address and resolve issues; conduct one-on-one conversations with customers and/or stakeholders to resolve complex discrepancies; provide guidance to staff; collaborate with others including attorneys, prosecutors, and/or law enforcement; advise customers of appeal or protest rights
Some knowledge of supervisory practices
Experience in records management
Experience interpreting, applying, or explaining state or federal laws, rules, and policies
Experience researching and reviewing legal documents for compliance with laws and to identify and resolve complex issues
Experience creating correspondence and documents using word processing software
Experience or knowledge of court processes
Willingness to work in an Adult Correctional facility
- Fluent in Spanish language
To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department mission goals and will be subject to:

Having a history of law-abiding behavior

Complex technical materials may include: court orders, court documents, contracts, subpoena requests, etc. Typically gained by at least one year of experience performing research and analysis of complex or technical material requiring in-depth program knowledge to determine if requirements were met and if they complied with established laws and/or policies.
