Consultant, please conduct seated interview. Period of intended Employment: 2/3/2024-9/30/2024. Location: Peshastin , Washington. Applicant \"MUST HAVE\" 3 months of experience.

Job Duties: Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of alfalfa and barley. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to general farm work/irrigation/crop production. General Farm Work will include the following responsibilities: maintain, drive, attach and operate farm implements/tractors/equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize and harvest crops; make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery; may mix and/or spray chemicals (according to appropriate restrictive use laws, when/if applicable); remove rocks from field; paint farm structures; perform general clean-up of farm areas; drive, load/unload trucks; operate motor bike or all-terrain vehicle in the course of performing duties. Irrigation duties will include the following: Hand lines: connect pipes; check alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution; attach lines to water supply; turn on pump; turn valves to start flow of water; move pipes through freshly irrigated crops and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times; lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 40 pounds on a sustained basis. Wheel lines: start gasoline engines and operate controls to move lines across fields at specified intervals. Pivots: push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system. Other Irrigation Duties: remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields; lubricate, adjust, repair and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools; disassemble, service and store pipes/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season. Job Requirements: 1. Hand thinning of pear trees to ensure proper fruit load on tree. 2. Pruning of pear trees. 3. Training of pear to trellis, including clipping and tying limbs and shoots to wire. 4. Training and limb positioning of pear trees. 5. Assist in the establishment of new orchard properties by clearing property, planting trees, building trellis, repair, and spreading of composted material and any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of new orchard properties. 6. Care for trees during growing process. 7. Harvest preparation including spreading liners in bins, rolling bins into blocks by hand. 8. Propping and tying of pear trees and limbs. 9. Pruning and thinning may be done from the ground or ladder up to 12 feet in height, or from a motorized platform. 10. Repair sprinklers on overhead cooling system. 11. Load and unload empty bins by hand and place in orchard. 12. Picking numerous varieties of pears according to established company procedures accounting for difference in the treatment of different varieties.\ 13. Selectively pick only fruit of certain color and/or size as instructed by the supervisor. 14. Handle fruit carefully and not bruise or damage fruit when it is placed in the bin. 15. Observation of bruised, damaged or cull fruit by the supervisor will result in a bad bin mark and after three bad bin marks, the workers will receive disciplinary action up to and including termination. A bad bin mark occurs when a bin in inspected and significant number of culls, bruised or damaged fruit are found by the supervisors. 16. Farm clean up tasks to include picking up garbage around the orchard, removing old string and wire from trellis and orchard blocks. 17. The worker must be adept at safely placing and using ladders. Most of the work will be done from an aluminum ladder up to 12 feet in height. 18. Hand tools, such as pruning hooks, shears, and/or picking bags/buckets will be u ilized. 19. Placement and removal of horticultural fabric Use of farm equipment such as tractors and/or four wheelers may be used during harvest or for the general maintenance of the orchard sites throughout the season. 20. Workers may transplant alfalfa crop, manually plant, weeding and may also repair irrigation lines if needed. Workers may also: 1.Drive Tractors 2.Spray and mix chemicals and fertilizers 3.Operate trucks to carry farm equipment, crops or farmworkers 4.Perform general repair of agricultural equipment The employer attests that the workers will be properly trained by their supervisor who has a valid Private Applicators license which is the standard pursuant to Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA). Furthermore, their supervisor will be available to ensure that workers understand all chemical labels, safety instructions, and application instructions pursuant to WSDA.Pruning: Pruning numerous varieties of pear trees according to established company procedures based on the difference in the treatment of different varieties. Work will be performed on trees for long periods of time using a variety of pruning equipment including but not limited to hand shears, hand loppers, hand saws. Furthermore, the worker must possess ability to pick up, handle a 10 ft. or 12 ft. orchard ladder weighing 40 pounds. Pruning may be done from the ground or a ladder up to 12 feet in height or from a motorized platform.
