Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, John F. Kennedy Library. Incumbent serves as an Education Specialist responsible for the development, organization, coordination and implementation of the Library's class visit program for students; programs for senior citizens; and professional development programs for teachers. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the GS-11. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As an Education Specialist, you will: Develop historical materials from the library's collection for classroom use. Perform research on, evaluate, and develop educational material for museum programs, conferences, seminars, forums and other educational ceremonial events. Plan and conduct teacher workshops and development programs for teachers. Deliver historical presentations to classes in schools, colleges and other institutions. Serve as a resource to teachers concerning questions of instructional methods on historical material and programs. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. The work is relatively sedentary. Incumbent operates in many different areas of the Library; thus considerable walking and standing is required. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled . Specialized experience is defined as experience: Designing and facilitating professional development programs for educators at the K-16 level that includes best practices for integrating primary resources and archival material into classroom instruction OR developing curriculum materials for museum exhibitions and/or hands on educational components for integration into museum exhibitions; AND Delivering K-12 educational content using archival or museum collections to promote the use of those collections to the widest audience possible; AND Assisting various audiences with research and instructional methods. OR EDUCATION: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Only graduate level education in excess of the first two years (36 hours or more) can be combined to meet the experience. One year of full-time graduate education is considered 18 semester hours. Example: Six-months of appropriate specialized experience equivalent to GS-9 and 36 semester hours of appropriate education, equal 100% qualifying experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled . Specialized experience is defined as experience: Delivering K-12 educational content using archival or museum collections to promote the use of those collections to the widest audience possible; AND Assisting various audiences with research and instructional methods. OR EDUCATION: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. The total percentage of education and experience must equal 100% to qualify. Education Individual Occupational Requirements: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
