Job Description

The opportunity

Reporting to the Director of US Division Controls, the manager of this new position will play a key role in the development of SOC 1 reporting for the Annuities US business unit. This role will collaborate with operational, accounting and IT professionals to design processes, controls and standard methodologies to support the SOC 1, work with external auditors to understand the scope of testing required and its impact on the business, facilitate testing procedures and provide senior business leaders with insightful analysis of potential issues and recommend action plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the SOC 1 reporting by building effective relationships with the Annuity operational leads, accounting shared services, IT, and external auditors.

  • Review deliverables produced by team members to ensure quality expectations and deadlines are met.

  • Develop action plans to address any scope, schedule, cost or quality issues.

  • Provide senior business leaders with insightful analysis of potential issues and recommend action plans.

  • Present findings and recommendations to the business owners and Controls Director using strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Design solutions to manage risk and provide insight into processes and controls. Coordinate the work required to support external auditors.

  • Drive the continuous improvement of the business area/shared service’s controls framework, methodology, tools & reporting.

  • Maintain a high level of responsiveness to internal & external auditors, ensuring adherence to professional standards.

  • Opportunities for Cross utilization with US Finance Segment on projects, financial reporting, and other areas.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience, CPA preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years accounting experience, public accounting experience a plus.

  • Working knowledge of SOX, MAR, SOC1 and IFRS/NAIC accounting guidelines are a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence management at various levels of the organization.

  • Detailed oriented with strong organization and project management skills. Excellent customer focus and a commitment to quality while still meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and recommendations orally and in writing, while considering the viewpoint of others.

  • Strong analytical and inquiry skills to understand operational and valuation processes and controls.

  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently and with teams at the Boston & Toronto locations.

  • Strong computer skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,325.00 USD - $155,385.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
