About the role The Lead Material Handler is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of material handling activities within the production facility. This role ensures the efficient and accurate movement, storage, and distribution of materials and products to support production schedules. The Lead Material Handler plays a critical role in maintaining the flow of materials to meet production demands while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to guide a team of material handlers in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Effectively delegate work and lead Material Handler staff Managing material flow, receiving, inventory control, and resolving material issues Making independent decisions with minimal guidance Coordinating logistics, including transportation and shipments, and managing documentation Using gas-powered, electrical, and manual material handling equipment Developing, updating, and improving warehouse procedures for efficiency and safety Supporting change controls, addressing deviations, and troubleshooting issues Contributing to continuous improvement teams to achieve site goals and improvements Coordinating maintenance and ensuring preventative upkeep on equipment Training staff to ensure proficiency in Material Handling operations Handling customer requests and coordinating material and logistics, including returns and documentation Supporting a safe working environment and assist with area specific initiatives associated with work safety Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent required DOT Hazmat certification and IATA certification preferred Minimum of 3 years of experience in a warehouse environment Previous lead experience required Experience in the use of ERP/MRP software systems a plus Previous forklift experience preferred Travel Must be proficient with Microsoft office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.) Must be able to perform data entry, format documents and create advanced templates Ability to exercise independent judgement with limited instruction and guidance Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment or work independently Ability to successfully train others Excellent communication skills; both verbally and written Ability to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility Ability to use judgement to identify potential safety hazards Knowledge of APICS best practices for warehouse operations preferred Physical Demands Work is primarily performed on the manufacturing floor where noise levels may be moderate or high Eye, foot and hearing protection is required in marked areas Lifting weights up to 30 pounds may occur regularly, with a potential for lifting weights of up to 55 pounds on an occasional basis There is potential exposure to extreme temperatures The occasional physical demands of the position include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and eye/hand/foot coordination May stand or sit for prolonged periods of time What We Offer Comprehensive benefits include: Medical, dental, and vision insurance programs 401K plans with employer-matching contributions Tuition reimbursement PTO Paid holidays Volunteer time off For more information about benefits, please go to: https://careers.leviton.com/benefits Leviton is an EEO/AA Employer.
