State of Massachusetts Recovery Coach in Bourne, Massachusetts

Position Summary The Recovery Coach will be assisting current and former inmates/detainees with opioid use disorder (OUD) in their efforts to remain drug free once released from incarceration by acting as a guide and mentor. They will be responsible for empowering clients in their personal journey towards recovery offering hope; while providing advocacy, guidance, motivation and knowledge. Supervision Received: Receives general direction and oversight and work directly under the supervision of the Program Director of the E-MAT program and the Director of Inmate Servicesperforming duties in accordance with all best practices and established guidelines. Duties and Responsibilities: Identifying and enrolling participants in the program. Assisting with aftercare coordination regarding housing, recovery services, blood work and physical exam of participants. Scheduling community provider appointments. Providing medication education to current and former inmates. Responsible for community monitoring of former inmates and follow-up contact with former inmates to ensure their success in the program. Collect data and filing reports in accordance with program needs. Working with correctional staff and other caseworkers to provide program counseling and residential substance abuse programming. Providing support services, treatment and assist with finding long term treatment programs to inmates re-entering the community from a correctional facility. Ensuring that inmates and detainees receive services available to assist them with their treatment while incarcerated. Promotion and coordinating the medically assisted aftercare initiative to assist inmates and detainees who are addressing substance abuse issues. Developing and maintaining good relations with agencies relevant to the support needs of inmates/detainees returning to the community, including housing and social services; specialist drug and alcohol services; colleges and educational establishments Ensuring inmates and detainees can access a range of practical and emotional support services to meet their needs and look holistically at their lives. Being an integrated member of the treatment and program services team Work towards reducing 6-month alcohol and drug use rates for justice involved individuals in the community. Work towards reducing adverse outcomes related to opioid use disorder for justice involved individuals in the community. Improve ease of access and increase retention in community-based services for justice involved individuals. Participating in bimonthly Re-Entry meetings, that include community provider representatives, focusing on increasing ease of access and the probability individuals will follow through with re-entry planning. Participate in Sheriff’s Office Human Service team to ensure and develop systems of communication, effective treatment, continuum of care, and aftercare for offenders throughout the facility and once released into the community. Work in a team model with both uniformed and non-uniformed treatment staff to ensure therapeutic community and continuity of care standards throughout the facility. Coordinate with Classification Staff and Reintegration Coordinator to facilitate reintegration planning for inmates nearing release or parole. /Please note this job description is not designated to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee in this job. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Organized with attention to detail. Ability to follow an agency’s policies and procedures. Excellent interpersonal skills. Maintain good attendance. Ability to prioritize and problem solve in a high-pressure environment. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement and to handle confidential information. Working knowledge of Corrections terminology, procedures, and interrelationships of the criminal justice system and recovery programs. Qualifications: A High School Diploma or equivalency certificate is required. LADC/CADC or Recovery Coach Certificate is required. Recovery Coach certificate may be obtained on the job through the Recovery Coach Academy. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a recovery orientated program or mental health facility is required. A minimum of one (1) years of experience working in a correctional facility is preferred but not required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Walking short distances throughout the facility. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. Work Environment: This position does require working within the Barnstable County Correctional Facility. This position does require working with individuals currently incarcerated at the Barnstable County Corrections Facility.
