Red Hat Software Engineer for RHEL Upgrades in Brno, Czech Republic
The RHEL Upgrades team is looking for a software engineer to join our team in Brno, Czechia, or remotely within Czechia, with occasional travel to Brno . In this role, you will be part of a team developing tools and solutions for automated upgrades of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the low-level aspects of the Linux operating system and a passion for modernization and innovation. You will work closely with other Red Hat Linux engineering teams, open source communities, key partners, strategic customers, and product managers, while embracing Red Hat’s unique culture and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
What you will do
Maintain and optimize the current generation of the in-place upgrade tooling
Participate in the full development lifecycle, from design to release, including RPM packaging for Centos Stream and RHEL systems
Communicate and collaborate with developers and teams inside and outside Red Hat
Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation
Develop and validate prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions
Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve customer issues, working closely with all stakeholders
What you will bring
Experience with Linux administration and a solid understanding of the Linux operating system
Proficiency in Python programming language
Expertise in using Git for version control
Proactive, collaborative team player with effective problem-solving skills
Competence in troubleshooting and debugging complex system issues
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools like Ansible
Familiarity with software testing, including unit and integration tests
Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols
Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal
The following will be considered a plus
Cloud Computing experience using at least one of the following Cloud infrastructures AWS, GCP, or Azure
Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub.
