Visit www.cdc.gov Responsibilities As a Electronics Technician (Mining), you will: Provide technical expertise to support research functions through the installation, configuration, modification, and adaptation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic circuitry and in applying technical knowledge of a miner to experiments and research on health and safety problems in mines. Apply an extensive knowledge of electronics technical work in electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance in carrying out assignments in mining operations. Provide for prompt and safe correction of hazardous conditions found in mines. Responsible to the senior engineering technician for the day-to-day compliance with the provisions of Public Law 91-173 as it relates to the operation of and activities in the Safety Research Coal Mine and Bruceton Experimental Mine. Requirements Conditions of Employment Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ: US Citizenship required. Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (http://www.sss.gov). May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation. Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared. CDC participates in the USCIS Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify). If selected, CDC will determine your employment eligibility using your social security number. Direct deposit is required. One-year probationary period may be required. This position is eligible for remote work or telework at the discretion of the supervisor. This position may be subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Must possess a valid State driver's license and be able to drive Government-owned vehicles up to and including 1½-ton trucks. Must be able to work at surface and underground mine sites and is required to complete an underground physical examination by a physician. Must possess Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) electrical cards for surface and underground high, medium, and low voltage. Must possess a certificate issued by the Secretary of Miners that confirms a certified mining machine operator or certified shot-firer. Require underground work in mines, that requires completion of new miner training in addition to 12 months of underground mining experience in accordance with the Mine Safety. The mine training must have been approved by MSHA and given by an MSHA-approved instruction and recorded on MSHA Form 5000-23). In gassy mines, must possess a first-grade mine foreman's certificate. In non-gassy mines where 5 or more individuals work underground in any 24-hour period, must possess either a first-grade mine foreman's certificate, a first-grade assistant mine foreman's certificate or a second-grade mine foreman's certificate. Wear and prominent display of the CDC identification badge (HHS 576 CDC) is mandatory during tours of duty. Exception: ID badge will not be worn in work areas when it will obstruct or interfere with the wearing of safety equipment/clothing or when the working. Qualifications Requirements continue: This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L. 95-521). This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing. The position may require the submission of a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and be subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing upon hiring. If required to submit to urinalysis, the appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative test result. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: experience in mine safety inspection and remediation; troubleshooting and repairing mining equipment and machinery; and installing and maintaining electrical and electronic circuitry. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
