How will you make an impact?

The Senior Direct Sourcing Manager will play a key role in leading a group of skilled Direct Sourcing professionals. Through collaboration with category teams, this individual will drive the completion of strategic sourcing initiatives to deliver cost savings, enhance supplier performance, and improve overall supply chain efficiency. By closely collaborating with cross-functional teams, it will gain a deep understanding of business requirements, identify potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of goods and services. Efficiently running sourcing activities will support the organization’s success and bottom line, positively impacting the overall performance. This role will report to the Director, Procurement COE.

What will you do?

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Direct Sourcing function within the Budapest Procurement CoE, a key part of Thermo Fisher’s procurement model.

  • Actively support the ongoing migration plan for the CoE, including sponsoring future work transitions and elevating the function's capabilities.

  • Build a cross-functional team of direct sourcing specialists with appropriate category expertise and specialization.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and escalation point for all Direct Sourcing activity serviced out of the Procurement CoE.

  • Support the digital roadmap for the Sourcing function, including tool/system requirements, test/scale, and deployment.

  • Lead the execution of sourcing activities and support on high-profile/complicated sourcing requests in support of category management teams.

  • Liaise with internal customers and category owners to ensure supplier program operations meet expectations.

  • Perform cost and scenario analysis and benchmarking for highly complicated and strategic transactions.

  • Negotiate contract terms of agreement and pricing, delivering and recording annual P&L savings..

  • Handle direct sourcing metrics to supervise performance on specific business objectives.

  • Responsible to the allocation of Sourcing work among the CoE team based on team members' experience and skills.

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to team members, ensuring goals and objectives are clearly defined. Set performance expectations and provide regular feedback and mentoring to help team members to succeed.

  • Supervise and evaluate the team's performance, recognizing team members' achievements and addressing performance issues in a timely manner.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external team members. Collaborate with other teams to achieve common goals and ensure effective cross-functional communication.

Education

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, operations, or supply chain management.

  • Master’s degree in business administration or engineering. (Nice to have).

  • At least 10 years of work experience in direct sourcing, specifically for the mechanical category.

  • High level of English language proficiency (verbal and written).

Experience

  • Excellent category-specific sourcing and category management skills in key spend portfolios, mechanical.

  • Expert understanding of multi-step strategic sourcing processes and strategies.

  • Procurement industry expertise – deep knowledge of supplier management and negotiations, contract management lifecycle.

  • Effective leader with people management experience in procurement – will have a team of up to 10 individual contributors.

  • Excellent business process orient eader – a curiosity about driving high-quality standardized work.

  • Experience leading technical projects in a matrixed environment.

  • Robust project management skills and capabilities (Gantt charts, dashboards, key results, case development).

  • Excellent communication proficiencies for structuring ideas clearly and concisely with technical and functional partners at various levels of the organization.

  • Influential business leader with a proven record in establishing relationships across functions.

  • Knowledge of project management mechanisms that can be used to handle workload and prioritization of requests from external customers.

  • Strong customer service orientation and attention to detail aligned with high standards of quality and excellence.
