The Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Operations Team engineers and supports all the foundational technology used across M&T Bank. We support two Data Centers, 15,000 Distributed platforms, 24 Mainframe Regions, a secure and reliable Network connecting all the technology across the bank footprint and process approximately 635,000 automated jobs per month. In addition to that foundational technology level, we own the operational support processes, monitoring and command center that provide a unified, well-managed technology response when issues arise. We deliver innovative, and compelling technology solutions, in partnership with our line of business CIOs, to enhance the internal customer experience that enables our business partners to deliver.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Patch Management Technical Engineer with deep platform experience in Linux, Windows, .NET, and Java environments. This role involves the identification, development, and implementation of tooling and processes for patch management automation. You will ensure smooth and efficient patching operations across diverse systems, contributing to a secure and optimized application stack. There is an opportunity to expand and refine the current app stack as part of a growing team focused on enhancing platform reliability and security.

Primary Responsibilities:

Patch Management: Oversee and manage the deployment of patches for Linux and Windows platforms, .NET, and Java environments.

Automation & Tooling: Identify, develop, and implement automation tools for efficient patch management using technologies like Ansible and other relevant platforms.

Process Design: Develop and refine tools, processes, and factory designs that support continuous improvement in patch management operations.

Architecture Diagrams: Read and create architecture diagrams to support tooling, process design, and operational workflows.

Regularly and independently interact with business partners of varying associate and management levels to ensure clarity of the problem/opportunity and elicit business requirements.

Coordinate vendor interactions and/or vendor resources as needed.

Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, technicians, and integrators. Review documentation, proposals, and changes proposed by less experienced staff.

Seek to expand knowledge and understanding of Financial Services trends, practices, and technologies on a continuous basis.

Follow and promote use of industry best practices, standards and procedures.

Maintain a strong aptitude and working knowledge of Bank applications, systems, development environments. Maintain a detailed understanding of vendor technologies and services used by the Bank.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

Combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management and/or architecture

Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments.

Strong knowledge of .NET, Java, and related application frameworks.

Expertise in Ansible for automation and scripting using Python.

Patch Management Tools: Experience in identifying and working with patch management tooling such as Ivanti, SCCM

Automation Skills: Proven experience in automating operational processes with tools like Ansible

Architecture Knowledge: Ability to read and create architecture diagrams and work with teams on infrastructure design.

Process Design: Proven experience in developing tooling and processes for patch management in large-scale environments.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document processes and interact with cross-functional teams.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $110,635.01 - $184,391.68 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
