M&T Bank Senior Desktop Engineer in Buffalo, New York

This role offers a hybrid work schedule; offering the flexibility to work remotely two days a week, while providing the opportunity for in-person collaboration at our Buffalo, NY Tech Hub.

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Desktop Engineer to join M&T Bank. In this role, you will be part of the team responsible for the Endpoint Systems and Software Delivery of all endpoints throughout the bank. This includes the selection of all Hardware (Laptops, Desktops, Monitors & Accessories) and Operating Systems used in the environment. This team provides engineering leadership overseeing the design, migration, maintenance, and monitoring of the existing and new solutions. A thorough understanding of end user computing environments including Windows 10, Windows 11, security, configuration, and hybrid connectivity between on premise systems and the cloud environment is required. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of technical skills and leadership along with an ability to facilitate effective communication and collaboration with other internal technical teams.

  • Drive the innovation of a modern Privileged Access Management Solution and Application Policies for a secure user environment.

  • Participate in the evaluation of end user hardware including Laptops, Desktops, Monitors, and other associated Accessories.

  • Serve as technical lead on programs or projects that are assigned by management.

  • Research, analyze, evaluate, and provide recommendations to management on future technology direction.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the current privileged access solution and application delivery policies for the endpoint environment and recommend a strategy to manage software and hardware for approximately 40,000 end user devices.

  • Participate in the testing and evaluation of new end user hardware & software technologies.

  • Provide technical leadership to the M&T Desktop Engineering Team for privileged access and application delivery.

  • Routine collaboration with other M&T Bank internal technical teams responsible for the configuration, security, maintenance, and support of the Desktop Environment.

  • Produce and maintain desktop standards, knowledge base, operating procedures, guidelines, and system documentation.

  • Work in an environment liaising with multiple teams to resolve issues, using incident and problem management processes.

  • Troubleshoot hardware and application configurations as it relates to workstation performance and end user experience.

  • Build automation into daily processes to improve the ease of doing business.

  • Manage service escalation to resolution and identify continuous improvement opportunities as appropriate.

  • Provide hands-on end user support, administration, installation, and issue resolution.

  • Perform moderate to complex system administration tasks across supported technology.

  • Create and present to internal stakeholders as well as the End User Computing team.

  • Generate clear and concise reports utilizing PowerBI and other reporting tools.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Computer science, Business or related area) or equivalent education, training and related discipline or experience required

  • 8+ years relevant experience with Windows environment (macOS a plus)

  • Experience with computing, topologies, scripting, and operating systems.

  • Working knowledge of office automation products and computer peripherals.

  • Strong collaboration with technology partners.

  • A team player mindset with an ability to thrive and effectively communicate in a fast-paced environment.

  • Enthusiastic learner with the ability to teach and mentor teammates and cross functional partners.

  • Familiar with enterprise desktop solutions using industry standard tools, for example Microsoft SCCM / Intune, JAMF Pro, or other applicable products

  • Demonstrated sound attention to detail.

  • Ability to perform remote troubleshooting and provide clear instructions.

  • Excellent problem-solving and multitasking skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Competence in a wide range of IT skills including networking, systems administration, data protection, information security, and virtualization.

  • Experience creating infrastructure design, technology road maps, and planning documentation.

  • Experience managing and implementing projects of a medium to large scale.

  • Experience with Jira and Service Now

  • Experience scripting with PowerShell

  • 5+ years in a medium to large enterprise IT environment

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $110,635.01 - $184,391.68 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
