Monitor Tech - Telemetry
St. John's Hospital Camarillo
The Monitor Technician is responsible for the monitoring (viewing central station, running ECG strips and notifying primary nurse or charge nurse of changes) of cardiac telemetry patients and for light clerical/receptionist duties (answering phone and call light systems).
Responsibilities
They actively participate in arranging and coordinating activities for patient care.
Coordinates communications between nursing staff, house supervisor, physicians and unit leaders.
Responsible for keeping track of the telemetry boxes, ECG cables and nursing communication devices/phones.
They must consistently demonstrate the ability to recognize basic normal and abnormal cardiac rhythm and to use the appropriate channels to escalate any changes to the nursing /healthcare team in effort to ensure appropriate intervention.
Demonstrates caring behaviors by displaying positive, cheerful attitude towards guests and co-workers, courteous telephone manners.
Ability to organize and prioritize work efficiently.
Communicates well and clearly both orally and in writing using the English language; spells correctly, writes legibly. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction in exact detail.
Preserves the confidentiality of medical records.
Reacts calmly and efficiently in emergencies.
Ability to operate common office equipment.
Qualifications
Completion of basic arrhythmia course
Internal arrhythmia and lethal arrhythmia assessment test with a score of 85% or better
High School education or equivalent
Successful completion of basic arrhythmia course and successful completion of an unit clerk training course or equivalent experience in an on the job orientation
Current AHA CPR certification (CT CPRBLS)
Preferred Requirements:
A minimum of six (6) months recent acute care experience as a unit clerk
Nursing background
Previous computer and/or electronic health record experience
Basic EKG course certification
Special Skills:
Demonstrates a working knowledge of basic arrhythmia; basic medical terminology; clerical practices and procedures.
Ability to recognize basic normal and abnormal cardiac rhythm.
