Amazon Network Infrastructure Manager (Data Center), in Cape Town, South Africa

Description

The Data Center Infrastructure Delivery organization is looking for an Operations Manager with a successful, progressive career history in people management and tactical operations management. The team is responsible for the installation of fiber optic cabling and server racks across the Amazon data center platform.

The ideal candidate will possess a technology background that enables them to understand the complexities of the sophisticated network architecture of Amazon data centers. To be a qualified candidate for this role you must have experience operating in large-scale data center or a background in telecom networks and display a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically, as this is needed to align the future of Infrastructure Delivery with the larger objectives of the business.

You will be responsible for managing group of technicians who are installing and building server rack capacity for our customers. You must be passionate about the Customer Experience, think and act globally and want to contribute to innovations in the area of Data Center Infrastructure.

Key job responsibilities

  • Managing and developing teams of technicians and engineers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring highest levels of performance.

  • Delivering capacity to existing Data Centres

  • Helping build and bring online new Data Centres

  • Constantly improving all our processes and procedures. We believe there is nothing we cannot improve

  • Assisting & managing relationships with external vendors & contractors

  • Liaising with internal teams & management groups

  • Ensuring we adhere to and exceed local Health & Safety standards in all our Data Centres

  • Creating and maintaining metrics on all aspects of our Data Centres and utilizing those metrics to drive positive changes

  • Assisting in implementing service methodologies including incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • An engineering degree or equivalent with extensive engineering or operations experience.

  • Previous people management experience, building & managing technical teams.

  • Experience working on high scale networks; both the logical and physical connectivity of the networking and how it works.

  • Broad understanding of cabling infrastructure, infrastructure technologies installation and design.

Preferred Qualifications

• Capacity planning and budgetary experience.

• Proven track record of success in delivering complex projects.

• Experience in Kaizen/Lean/SixSigma is preferable, with Proven experience of innovation and simplification.

• Ability to translate client requirements into technical specifications.

• Familiarity of Data Center server rack and network infrastructure.
