Job Description

The Iowa Department of Public Safety is seeking to fill aCommunications Center Specialistposition within Cedar Rapids State Radio.

Duties and responsibilities to include, but not limited to the following:

This position will elicit information from private citizens and state and federal agencies via telephone lines and forward it to the proper personnel; monitor equipment comprised of computerized switching system, isolate system problems and notify repair services.

Receive road condition data from other communications centers and enter the information in the computer system for agencies, state and nationwide; receive, transmit and monitor messages from/or between state, county and municipal law enforcement or emergency services through operation of two-way radio, telephone and communication computer system; obtain confidential criminal records and traffic safety information from the IOWA System for state and local law enforcement officers.

Elicit from callers the type of assistance needed and notify appropriate enforcement officials or emergency services; maintain contact with investigation officers by monitoring messages to alert other officers of suspected violence against officer involved.

Continually monitor, receive and process all calls, tips and written reports made to the Governor's School Safety Bureau (GSSB) anonymous reporting tool; assess and direct GSSB information received in an expedient manner to the appropriate agency, agent, first responder or heath care provider for follow up action as set forth in Department policy and procedures.

Ability to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Department of Public Safety.

Ability to pass a physical and psychological evaluation provided by the Department of Public Safety which includes normal hearing with a loss not exceeding a twenty-five decibel average in either ear at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 cycles, vision corrected to 20/20 and normal speech.
