Wells Fargo Lead Financial Accountant - ABUS in CHARLOTTE, North Carolina

About this role:

The Accounting Business Unit Support (ABUS) group in the Controller's Division is seeking a highly motivated Lead Financial Accountant with strong accounting and analytical experience to join our high performing team. This individual will lead work supporting accounting functions and SEC and regulatory reporting requirements, as well as all related internal control activities.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as a Lead Consultant for financial accounting related matters for lines of business and other control functions

  • Apply a broad and deep functional expertise on accounting and reporting requirements in order to influence and provide direction to senior management on highly sensitive situations or negotiations

  • Provide technical expertise regarding accounting issues, regulatory reporting requirements/matters and research; support line of business functions (front office, operations, system/data owners) on major transactions and new product development

  • Provide and review data submissions for financial and regulatory reports; design and implement control activities over the end-to-end reporting process; review variance analyses and drive disposition of questions / issues

  • Communicate best practices and procedures for proper financial control functions to line of business control executive leads in accordance with the company's internal controls policies

  • Understand accounting and reporting policies; Articulate the impact of accounting/reporting policy changes to management within business group or organization

  • Apply extensive specialized product and/or accounting and reporting knowledge and act as an internal consultant or final authority in area of expertise

  • Provide technical interpretation/guidance on matters; act as liaison between business and corporate accounting functions, serving as a key change agent in building and adopting best practices within the functional area

  • Serve as primary contact for internal audit and second line of defense testing engagements in areas of responsibility; maintain up to date / accurate control documentation

  • Lead implementation of the most complex projects or initiatives impacting multiple lines of business or across the enterprise; understand and provide executive level project updates

  • Identify compliance and risk management requirements for supported area and works with other stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives

  • Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums

  • Provide work guidance or mentorship to peers and less experienced staff

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of Finance, Accounting, Analytics, Financial Reporting, Accounting Reporting or Risk Reporting experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • A BS/BA degree or higher in one or a combination of the following: Finance, Accounting, Analytics

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

  • Experience in SEC and regulatory reporting

  • Project management experience

  • Leadership skills including the ability to influence effectively in a matrix environment

  • Audit / COSO / control testing experience

  • Ability to re-engineer accounting and reporting processes to gain efficiencies and to enhance controls

  • Experience analyzing balance sheet accounts with related income statement accounts

  • Ability to articulate issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of staff and management

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills (Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Knowledge of analytical tools (SQL, Tableau)

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem-solving techniques

  • Virtual leadership experience with the ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback/direction, and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to influence, partner, and negotiate with individuals to gain commitment to accomplish business goals
