Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Integrated Operations Strategy and Analytics is responsible for leading a team of 20+ professionals, focusing on driving operational performance through data-driven insights, collaboration, business process optimization, and strategic program management. This role is pivotal in understanding the entire spectrum of operational performance by region or hub/station, from structural considerations to execution, ensuring that business decisions are guided by robust analytics and a deep understanding of the business inclusive of schedule design. The position balances operational enhancements with cost considerations to create a more efficient and resilient schedule, ultimately benefiting the overall enterprise. This includes collating data, reviewing, and analyzing the schedule development process, the operational execution of the schedule and all competitive performance trends as they related to our corporate reliability metrics. The position will provide ad-hoc analysis and strategic program management on a wide range of topics related to all aspects of United’s operational performance. Predictive analytics will be a key enabler to help solve potential customer or operational issues by providing solutions to both the schedule development process and operational execution. In addition, this role is responsible for leading all members of the team to be focused on building United into the world’s greatest airline.

Operational Strategy and Improvement

Proactively identify and evaluate initiatives to improve operational performance and competitiveness. Guide and advise on strategic operational improvements using data insights, ensuring optimal performance and competitiveness. Analyze schedule design from an operational constraints' perspective, collaborating with internal operational stakeholders and network planning to create a schedule that maximizes the enterprise's overall performance.

Collaboration with Network Planning

Partner with network planning teams to develop more operationally robust schedules, considering both the benefits and costs to the enterprise. This includes adjusting capacity, analyzing scheduling impacts, and building strategies for long-term operational efficiency. Work closely with stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals and maintain a strong focus on delivering results that benefit the broader organization.

Regional Performance Analytics and Benchmarking

Analyze operational execution and work with operational teams across regions and hubs to understand their unique execution strengths and opportunities, identifying areas for improvement, and facilitating knowledge-sharing, and to drive continuous improvement. Benchmark performance against other airlines to identify best practices and competitive positioning, ensuring the organization remains a leader in operational excellence.

Team Leadership and Development

Lead and mentor a team of analytics professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Drive the team's focus on understanding the operations, delivering data-driven insights that support strategic goals, and ensure that all team members are aligned with the broader objectives of the organization.

Stakeholder Engagement

Build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, to align on strategic objectives. Act as an ambassador for the operations function, representing the team's capabilities and achievements in meetings and presentations.

Predictive Analytics and Solution Development

Leverage predictive analytics to identify potential operational disruptions and recommend solutions. Provide targeted analysis to optimize performance indicators like on-time rates, productivity, and customer experience. Develop insights that help the organization proactively address issues before they impact performance.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree (Aviation, Finance, Network Planning, Engineering, or Operations)

  • 7+ years of airline experience with proven executive leadership interaction, managerial and analytical skills

  • 3+ years of proven experience in operational strategy, network planning, and strategic management activities, preferably in the airline industry.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing and developing a team.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of working effectively across departments.

  • Understanding, quantifying, and solving complex airline operational issues.

  • Analytical mindset with expertise in using data to drive decisions and solve complex operational challenges.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance operational improvements with cost management.

  • Knowledge of Domestic Network and Network Planning tools (schedule manager, profit manager, FPS data feeds)

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in engineering or in a quantitative field

  • 3+ management and/or 1+ years of experience specific to the position

  • Expert knowledge of Domestic Network and Network Planning tools (schedule manager, profit manager, FPS data feeds) or hands-on Domestic Network Planning experience
