Overview

The Walsh Group is currently seeking a Regional Diversity & Inclusion Manager in Chicago, IL.

The Diversity & Inclusion Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and strategies for the region. This role involves working closely with the Walsh corporate Human Resources Department, division leadership, and project staffs to foster a culture that values diversity, promotes equity, and ensures an inclusive environment for all team members. Key aspects of this job include optimizing engagement and utilization of small and disadvantaged businesses, maximizing strategic utilization of minority and local community tradesperson project participation, ensuring equity in management hiring and promotions, and coordinating with other regions to share best practices and prepare effective project proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a diversity & inclusion strategy in alignment with the divisional and corporate business goals

  • Collaborate with division senior leadership to set measurable D&I objectives and track progress toward the goals

  • Provide guidance and support to Walsh management and trade employees on D&I matters, working closely with the Walsh HR department

  • Design and administer training programs, working closely with Walsh HR department, to educate employees on diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Advocate for enhancements to policies, practices, and procedures that promote equity and remove barriers to inclusion

  • Partner with Walsh HR, the Walsh Career Development Department, and divisional leadership to develop and implement initiatives to attract, recruit and retain a diverse workforce.

  • Create, monitor, and analyze diversity metrics, including reports and recommendations to divisional leadership

  • Create and support employee groups and other forums for employees to engage in D&I discussions

  • Organize Walsh events and activities that celebrate diversity and foster an inclusive workplace culture

  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with local community organizations, industry trade organizations, labor unions, and educational institutions to promote the group’s D&I efforts.

  • Represent the division (and Walsh as a whole) at industry events, conferences and community outreach events focused on D&I.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant D&I regulations and standards

  • Assist divisional estimating and procurement efforts by forging strong relationships with small and minority (M/W/D/SBE) firms, maintaining a company database of eligible firms, and participating in solicitation efforts.

  • Assist the Regional Operations Manager and project staffs with the hiring and sharing of tradespeople that meet trade workforce goals set forth by local project owners.

  • Work with local and company-wide proposal managers to compile compelling data and success stories that showcase our D&I efforts for project proposals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in the construction/engineering, human resources, or social science fields.

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience, preferably construction and either the HR or D&I fields

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) of software

  • Ability to influence, engage and persuade stakeholders, both internal and external to Walsh

  • Strong analytical skills, including interpreting data and acting upon it appropriately

  • Passion for D&I issues

  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills

  • Collaborative, open-minded mindset

  • This position is onsite 5 days a week in our Chicago Office. This is not a remote position.
