About the Department

The staff scientist will work in a dynamic neurophysiology and Brain-Computer Interface Lab starting in 2024.. Work will focus on the neural basis of arm and hand movements in studies with non-human primates and on developing next-generation Brain-Computer Interfaces with human participants. The scientist will also be responsible for mentoring junior members of the staff and will lead several projects alongside the Principal Investigator, Professor Nicholas Hatsopoulos.

Job Summary

The job develops and implements programs to promote a research project or contributes to the scientific direction of a research resource.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software for human brain computer interface systems.
  • Develop encoding and decoding algorithms for neural activity.
  • Design experimental protocols for neurophysiological and psychophysical experiments.
  • Maintain technical and administrative support for one or more research projects.
  • Install, set up and perform experiments; interact with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Trains and mentors laboratory personnel.
  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

  • PhD in a related field.

Experience:

  • Five years or more of post-doctoral experience in a related field.

  • Strong mathematical, computational, or engineering background.
  • Coding experience in Matlab, Python, and/or C++.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Analytical thinking.
