Byline Bank Senior Benefits & Leave of Absence Lead (Hybrid) in Chicago, Illinois

The Senior Benefits & Leave of Absence Lead is the subject matter expert regarding compliance of state and national laws and regulations supporting the benefits function. This role leads the leave of absence policy and programs, analyzes benefits utilization, evaluates the effectiveness of the programs, and recommends changes. The Senior Benefits & Leave of Absence Lead will also be responsible for providing daily administration of employee benefit programs and the enrollment process.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate as the strategic owner and ultimate point of contact for employees, managers, and the HR department for all leave of absence requests, accommodations, and related issues.

  • Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive compliance program that adheres to all relevant state and federal laws regarding leaves of absence, including, but not limited to, FMLA, ADA, and various state leave laws.

  • Lead the formulation, implementation, and continuous improvement of the comprehensive process for employee leaves and accommodations, prioritizing seamless employee experiences.

  • Collaborate closely with Payroll and the third-party administrator to ensure accurate pay during leaves and efficient processing of short-term and long-term disability claims.

  • Direct the development and delivery of educational resources to employees, HR, and management about leave of absence protocols, promoting a culture of awareness and understanding.

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with HR, Legal, Payroll, and third-party administrators to efficiently manage leaves and address complex cases.

  • Develop and maintain reports and metrics related to leaves of absence.

  • Provides a high level of customer service by responding to and resolving employees’ issue and questions regarding benefits. Involves research and interpretation of benefits plans to include eligibility, covered services, and exclusions.

  • Maintains employee benefits data in human resources information system. Ensures employees receive accurate enrollment information and enrollments are completed in a timely manner.

  • Monitors all carrier file feeds to benefit vendors on a weekly basis to ensure they are functioning properly and works with vendor contacts to resolve any discrepancies or transmission issues.

  • Works in close coordination with Payroll to process all new benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations.

  • Proactively ensures all vendor service commitments and implementations are delivered in a timely manner.

  • Participates in the development of benefits communication materials from vendors, ensures availability of adequate materials and develops appropriate Company materials in-house.

  • Proactively recommends and develops benefits communication pieces for new hires, life events and annual open enrollment process.

  • Maintains knowledge of and analyzes government regulations, benefit program trends and prevailing practices among similar organizations. Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, including IRS and Department of Labor regulations.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or other related discipline required. PHR designation, preferred.

  • 5-7 years of experience in Benefits managing leaves of absences, disability benefits, and accommodations in a complex, multi-state environment.

  • Deep knowledge of the following regulations: FMLA, ADA, Section 125, COBRA, HIPAA, IRS and FLSA.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, and counseling managers and employees.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and progressive principles and practices in Benefits Administration.

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); particularly strong emphasis on Excel skills (vlook-up, creation of formulas, pivot tables, etc.); strong knowledge of HRIS-based benefits enrollment and administration systems (ADP preferred).

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, present, interact with and influence all levels of management and line employees.

  • Solid understanding of business, with particular emphasis on banking / financial services.

  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and make decisions in a consistent manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office equipment. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $125,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, Byline Bank offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
