What you will be doing

This role requires extensive familiarity with Windows servers and frequently involves user support tasks. Expertise with the Windows operating system and server administration to develop and deploy servers, support day-to-day system performance, and prevent data loss and unauthorized access is required. This role encompasses back-end IT support for business-critical and development-related departments and personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and support core Microsoft, Linux, VMware technologies and Azure resources.

  • Install and Configure Windows Servers.

  • Develop servers and provide support to individual users to ensure that the system works reliably and quickly.

  • Manage server virtualization technologies like VMWare Server/ESX

  • Responsible for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining the instances of the on-prem and cloud infrastructure services and the servers.

  • Knowledge in Application Insights, service principal in Azure, NSG rule, Azure Key vault

  • Provide technical support and guidance to users and other administrators.

  • Works closely with other IT departments and vendors to answer technical questions or resolve issues with server performance and access.

  • Install and maintain Windows-based programs for end users and help debug applications so that they work with Windows servers.

  • Perform System Maintenance activities like review backups, error logs and user-reported errors and identify stable and reliable solutions.

  • Monitor performance to reduce interruptions and server crashes. Develop and deploy initiative-taking solutions and setup alerts to ensure system usability across the organization.

  • Maintain system security by noticing faults and vulnerabilities within the server’s architecture.

  • Provides troubleshooting and support, including on-call rotation, after-hours support.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Work arrangement

This is a hybrid position located in downtown Chicago that requires on-site presence at least two days per week, subject to future change.

  • Troubleshooting and Technical Skills - Work closely with key business and technology partners to ensure that business and client impact issues are well understood and addressed. Ensure all infrastructure management aspects maintain adherence to all regulatory and information security standards and policies.

  • Critical Thinker – Create better ways of solving technical problems and not be afraid of challenging the status quo.

  • Relationship Management - Build strong relationships and partnerships with technical team members, clients, vendors, and peers. Lead discussions, listen, and ask the right questions to ensure problems/issues are identified and resolved.

Who you are.

  • Windows/Linux administration

  • Azure Certification is preferred.

  • Experience with Azure/AWS

  • Good knowledge of the Windows servers (2008 R2, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019)

  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to apply these skills to identify and resolve anomalies in system functionality and performance.

  • Managing server virtualization technologies like VMWare Server/ESX

  • Group Policy design, configuration Active Directory/LDAP user and group administration

  • Strong communication and documentation skills

  • Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and can manage projects of varying length.

  • Responsible, highly dependable, organized; able to work individually and collaboratively with peers.

  • Windows system administration: 8+ years

  • 2+ years Azure experience.
