Motor Equipment Operator (MEO) / Laborer Position Title: Motor Equipment Operator (MEO) / Laborer Department: DPW - Parks Employment Status: Non-Exempt; Full-Time Salary: Grade 5L, Step 5 / Starting at \$17.78 per hour & license incentives Licenses/Certifications: MA CDL-C required; MA CDL-B preferred, MA 2B Hoisting License SUMMARY The City of Chicopee\'s Department of Public Works / Parks Division is hiring a Motor Equipment Operator (MEO) / Laborer who will be responsible for the operation of motorized equipment within the Parks and Recreation Department in the performance of grounds maintenance work with a high degree of skill in the care, maintenance, and repair of recreation areas, athletic fields, and cemeteries. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE Operate motorized equipment such as but not limited to 1.5-ton dump truck, pick-up trucks, gang mower, bob cat, zero turn mower, riding mowers, snow blowers, field groomer, leaf vacuum units and club cab. Some equipment comes with various attachments including blowers, aerators, seeders, and others. Operates machinery, vehicles and tools safely and effectively including but not limited to: power tools, chain saw, painting machine, weed whip, pallet jack, skid steer, and compressor. These items are used to: cut and trim grass, trim or remove brush, bushes, or trees, groom, line and repair sports fields, load and unload material, remove leaves and snow, pick up trash and recycling. Performs basic skills of carpentry, masonry, mechanical repairs, painting with competence. Utilizes chemicals safely to clean comfort stations, removes graffiti from facilities and equipment, fuel equipment, and apply paint as well as other applications. May be assigned as a work crew leader based on skills required to complete the task. And other duties as assigned per the full job description. QUALIFICATIONS To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Two years of direct experience in turf maintenance and general maintenance tasks that demonstrates the competencies described in the essential duties. Knowledge of motorized equipment described in essential duties. Experience working outdoors in adverse weather conditions. MA CDL / C required; CDL-B preferred. MA 2B Hoisting License preferred.
