Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Lead Anesthesia Technologist coordinates daily operations of assigned areas in terms of staffing and workflow. They perform anesthesia machine and equipment testing, as well as, assists with daily scheduling, data collection, inventory, and troubleshooting equipment issues. They are responsible for the daily communication, feedback, coaching, and problem solving on the unit.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates daily department activities including scheduling anesthesia techs for daily assignments, training new employees and assisting department manager with needs.

  • Communicates daily with staff ensuring job duties are being completed in an effective and efficient manner.

  • Ensures staff respond in a timely manner to all requests by anesthesia care provider.

  • Maintains equipment in working condition taking immediate action to facilitate needed repairs and to acquire loaner equipment for the interim while functioning as a resource person for equipment issues, and provides education and in-services.

  • Ensures all staff are knowledgeable of location, operation, and general maintenance of anesthesia equipment and supplies.

  • Precepts training of new technicians and ongoing process improvement quality measures. Provides feedback to manager and educator in the evaluation of proficiency of staff.

  • Supervises other Anesthesia Technicians and oversees the departments daily production, including communication with techs, nurses, and physicians in order to meet the patients needs.

  • Provides assistance to licensed anesthesia providers in various settings to anticipate the needs of the anesthesia team.

  • Continually monitors current andfuture procedural schedules to identify and arrange for specialty items. Specialized in setting up necessary equipment and/or procedures (i.e.- A-Lines, Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR), Cath Lab, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), Endoscopy).

  • Expedites inventory orders as necessary, restocks supplies, manages expiration dates,and monitors general appearance of work setting and anesthesia office.

  • Identifies and resolves infection control issues in and around transport of biological hazardous materials, including the use of universal precautions and correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Participates in Performance Improvement Process and utilizes Performance Improvement Results.

  • Participates in financial accountability by utilizing resources in a cost conscious manner.

Licensing/Certification

BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required)
