M&T Bank Enterprise Architecture Manager - Consumer Banking in Marcellus, New York

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Enterprise Architecture Manager who will oversee the strategic direction, day to day activities, and ongoing maturity of an EA team supporting Consumer Banking, Cyber Security, Enterprise Data, and Cloud/Infrastructure. Additionally, this role will personally oversee a portion of the Consumer Banking application portfolio.

Enterprise Architecture at M&T is responsible for the documentation and visualization of value chains, technical health, and current/target states in collaboration with senior technology leaders. EA ensures technology alignment to strategy through the development of roadmaps alongside product owners and technology teams - incorporating industry trends, best practices, and personal insights while connecting them with the broader Enterprise Technology landscape, technology standards/policies, and risk appetite.

The ideal candidate for this role will be adept at leading a high performing team, be highly effective in communicating with senior-level leaders, and have expertise in Enterprise Architecture, Consumer Banking, and overall software development practices. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of Enterprise Architects including responsibilities concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.

  • Leverage expertise in technical and business strategy development to support technology leadership teams in strategic decision making.

  • Provide consultation services to technology leadership team to improve technology delivery and operational efficiency.

  • Provide thought leadership and build strong stakeholder partnerships to articulate current state, target state, and domain roadmap.

  • Ensure all architecture domains (business, application, information/data, cloud/infrastructure, security) are considered during solution procurement and/or design.

  • Collaborate with delivery teams and domain leadership in preparation for executive leadership, architectural peer group, and architecture review board meetings.

  • Research, understand, and apply existing/new/emerging technologies and trends to determine their potential impact on technology domains.

  • Translate the enterprise's technology future-state architecture vision into principles, guidelines, standards, and patterns to ensure alignment with broader strategic goals.

  • Identify opportunities and approaches for solving domain problems from a broad enterprise perspective that may include new products, new platforms, or system enhancements for Agile teams and domain leadership to help promote the reuse of existing technical investments and capabilities.

  • Create and maintain reference materials for use by the technical delivery team to ensure consistent and compliant solutions for enterprise level architecture patterns.

  • Participate in the planning and design of strategic initiatives that require architecture guidance.

  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Minimum of Associates’ degree and 11 years’ technology management or large program leadership experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 11 years’ technology management or large program leadership experience

  • Experience in driving and delivering innovation within the Consumer Banking domain

  • Knowledge of core banking platforms, branch and teller platforms, mortgage lending, customer service systems, card, payments, web/mobile channels

  • Working knowledge of architecture diagramming practices, architectural frameworks, and/or enterprise architecture tools

  • Working knowledge of software development lifecycle, CI/CD Pipelines, application development software, and various software/hardware stacks and platforms

  • Experience in software engineering, software delivery, and/or solution architecture

  • Experience architecting or managing large system installs, upgrades, enhancements, and/or conversions

  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, organizational, and time management skills

  • Experience encouraging teamwork and serving as role model when leading and directing others

  • Confidence in leading team members in different geographic locations and time zones

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting to executives and senior leadership

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Master’s degree

  • Minimum of 12 years’ technology management or large program leadership experience

  • Experience building, managing, and improving the maturity of an Enterprise Architecture practice

  • Extensive business, application, product, integration, and functional knowledge of technology area supported (core banking platforms, branch and teller platforms, mortgage lending, customer service systems, card, payments, web/mobile channels)

  • Knowledge of marketing tech stack, customer segmentation and propensity analytics

  • Self-motivated and able to motivate others with proven mentoring and leadership capabilities

  • Certification and experience working with Cloud technologies and vendors

  • Experience working in an Agile environment

  • Certification in enterprise architecture frameworks
