As a manager within finance, you will play a key role in managing and optimizing our cost accounting processes, ensuring accurate cost analysis, and providing valuable insights to drive financial performance and cost efficiency. Reviews labor postings to jobs for accuracy. Reviews routings and Bills of Materials for accuracy. Calculates labor and overhead rates. Performs periodic costs rolls. (Cost rollups are the process of adding the direct material, direct labor and overhead costs to obtain the total manufacturing cost per unit. The cost rollup is usually done automatically by cost management systems, but can also be performed manually using a spreadsheet application.) Analyzes purchase price variance accounts. Researches material, labor and overhead standard variances per job and prepares explanations. Prepares month-end journal entries and reconciliation schedules. Assists in cycle count/physical inventories. Assists and manages other duties/tasks as assigned. Ensure accurate and timely recording of costs, inventory valuation, and cost of goods sold (COGS). Monitor and analyze cost trends, identifying areas for cost reduction and process improvement. Oversee inventory control processes, ensuring accuracy in stock valuation, inventory levels, and inventory obsolescence. Monitor and reconcile physical inventory count with recorded amounts, investigating discrepancies and implementing corrective actions. Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasts, working closely with department managers to align cost projections with business objectives. Assist with time-sensitive month-end close processes and monthly financial reporting requirements, create and distribute reports that communicate financial results, supporting effective business management. Analyze actual costs against budgeted figures, identifying deviations and providing recommendations for corrective actions. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls related to cost accounting. Coordinate and support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations, and assist with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) 404 compliance requirements. Assist with special assignments as needed, supporting various corporate and ledger functions. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Strong level of Microsoft Office skills, with advanced Excel skills (including ability to produce graphs and tables, use spreadsheets efficiently (pivot tables and lookups, etc.), and perform calculations and automation to process large volumes of data). Self-starter who takes initiative. Strong organizational skills. Works efficiently with strong attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Standard Cost systems, and SOX 404 reporting compliance. In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and best practices. Analytical skills with a keen sense of organization and detail. Proven time management skills and ability to work under strict deadlines. Respect for confidentiality of information laws and local ethics. Expertise in costing for fixed and variable costs in relation to the overall direct cost of a line of products. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of work experience in a manufacturing cost accountant role, working with a standard cost system. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA/CMA is a plus. Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work safely throughout our manufacturing facilities. Able to work effectively under pressure of deadlines. Able to routinely work on-site full time, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, plus overtime as needed.
