Caregivers in the Q5 Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) provide care to some of the most critically ill cardiovascular surgical patients in the country, such as patients receiving coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair and replacements, aortic surgeries, and minimally invasive cardiac surgeries, as well as patients that have undergone new and innovative robotic cardiac surgeries.

A caregiver in this position works Day/Night Rotation, from 7:00am-7:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established healthcare organization policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans.

  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.

  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.

  • Assess and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.

  • Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.

  • Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) must be presented upon hire.

  • If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment.

  • One year of current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care settings.

  • Will consider licensed military RN experience.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
