Naval Facilities Engineering Command HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSER in Colts Neck, New Jersey

Summary You will serve as a Hazardous Waste Disposer in the Environmental Division, NWS Earle, NJ This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Responsibilities You will collect, transport, handle, repackage, store, and prepare hazardous waste for disposal shipment in accordance with environmental and DOT regulations. You will inspect hazardous waste storage locations for compliance with storage guidelines or local instructions. You will maintain inventory logs and inspection forms of materials submitted. You will serve as a member of the station emergency spill response team and assist in cleanup of hazardous material spills. You will operate various governmental vehicles including forklifts and trucks to relocate waste containers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the a Hazardous Waste Disposer without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Transporting hazardous waste containers to the hazardous waste facilities; 2) Identifying hazardous waste and hazardous spill residues to ensure hazardous waste is properly accumulated, stored, and manifested; 3) Processing hazardous waste for storage and disposal; 4) Performing waste sampling; 5) Operating material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks and waste transport trucks; 6) Identifying, packaging, and transporting hazardous waste according to RCRA and DOT requirements; 7) Responding to oil and hazardous material spill incidents and providing cleanup services and 8) Inspections of hazardous waste storage areas to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. A 40-hour work week is typical for this position. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work involves climbing, prolonged standing, bending, heavy lifting, and moving drums filled with hazardous materials/waste, manually loading un unloading materials, drum, lab boxes, and tri-walls. Requires use of hand-trucks and other types of material loading equipment. Work will require the use of personal protective (PPE). PPE may include, but is not limited to gloves, eye protection, safety shoes, and occasional encapsulated suits with a respirator during various both heat and cold. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work must be performed in all extremes of weather during normal operations and during spill responses. Incumbent must be able to wear personal protective equipment. May be required at times to work in rough terrain or confined spaces and work with known and unknown hazardous chemicals that are toxic, potentially explosive, flammable, highly reactive, and corrosive to metal, skin, and eyes. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
