Job Duties and Responsibilities

Coral Gables operates under a commission/manager form of government and is well known for its active and involved citizenry. The Part-Time Seasonal DEI Counselor will provide inclusion support and specialized recreational programming for campers with disabilities across the lifespan and p repare daily for each camper by thoroughly understanding and consistently adhering to the Individual Educational/Behavior Plan as directed by the parents, educators, specialists and/or professional consultants.

This is a seasonal position that is scheduled to begin this Summer.

Please note that candidates selected for this position may be assigned to any of the following facilities: War Memorial Youth Center, Venetian Pool, Adult Activities Center, Tennis Center and Ruth Bryan Owen Waterway Park.

In addition, selected candidates will be required to attend a mandatory orientation on May 31, 2024 and June 1, 2024.

Qualifications

Graduate from a four year college or university with a major in Special Education, Psychology, Therapeutic Recreation or related field.

Minimum of 1 year experience working with special needs clients in the area of assignment.

CPR/First Aide/AED Certification must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.

A comparable amount of training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement.

PART-TIME (15-24 Hours):

ANNUAL LEAVE: 4 days per year (1 day is equivalent to 4.80 hours). Leave is accrued but not able to use during first 90 days of employment.

SICK LEAVE: 4 days per year. Employees may convert to annual leave 15 hours if more than 2 days have been accrued and unused during the fiscal year.

HOLIDAYS: 11 holidays (If scheduled to work, plus 1 floating day).

BEREAVEMENT: 3 Days for the death of an immediate family member (Parent, spouse, or child) and 2 days for any other immediate family member.

ADMINISTRATIVE SICK LEAVE: Employees who have not used sick leave, leave without pay, or have not lost time due to an on-the-job injury in a 6 month period are entitled to 1 day of administrative leave.

CASH PAY OUT OF VACATION: Employees may request payment of accrued/earned annual leave not to exceed 15 hours at the rate of pay in effect at the time of the request, provided such request is made no later than September 30, 2015 (or as amended every fiscal year).

MILITARY LEAVE: 30 work days every year with pay and the remainder of the period shall be without pay, unless otherwise provided by City Commission.

JURY DUTY: Time off with pay if scheduled to work.

PART-TIME (25 -29 Hours)

ANNUAL LEAVE: 8 days per year (1 day is equivalent to 5.80 hours). Leave is accrued but not able to use during first 90 days of employment.

SICK LEAVE: 8 days per year. Employees may convert to annual leave 30 hours if more than 4 days have been accrued and unused during the fiscal year.

HOLIDAYS: 11 holidays (If scheduled to work, plus 1 floating day).
