The Role

As the Graphic Designer - Data Visualization Specialist, you will be responsible for creating visually compelling and informative data visualizations, infographics, and graphics that effectively communicate complex information and insights. You will collaborate closely with our marketing, product, and editorial teams to produce engaging visual content, with a focus on supporting data-driven storytelling initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a keen understanding of how to translate sometimes complex data into clear visual designs for print and digital platforms.

Your day-to-day

• Design and develop data visualizations, infographics, charts, and graphics that enhance storytelling and effectively communicate key messages and insights.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and project objectives and translate complex data sets into clear and visually appealing designs.

• Ensure all visual assets adhere to brand guidelines and maintain a consistent aesthetic across various mediums, including print and digital platforms.

• Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data visualization and graphic design.

• Work closely with editors and journalists to support data-driven storytelling initiatives, including the creation of visual elements for articles and reports.

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept development to final delivery, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are of the highest quality.

What you bring to the team

• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Information Design, Journalism, or a related field

• Substantial years of experience in graphic design, with a focus on data visualization and information design.

• Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and data visualization tools like Tableau or D3.js.

• Strong portfolio showcasing a range of data-driven design projects, with an emphasis on clarity, creativity, and storytelling.

• Experience working in a newspaper or editorial environment preferred, with a solid understanding of print design principles and production processes.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Strong attention to detail and a passion for visual storytelling and data-driven design.
